I agree it is somewhat pointless to try to apply logic or predict what Blizzard is going to do...

On top of user reporting, it would be pretty easy for Blizzard to so an automated system looking for broadcasting/multicasting of any type (and frankly not care whether hardware/software based but even that can be fairly reliably determined with the right tools). We do this at my work for monitoring every attempted-login/login/use of our OSes/DBs/Apps and any team competent with SIEM tools and Workflow tools could automate a process...
