New computer -- need input

Hello everyone!

Today was a sad day. I have been squeezing each and every ounce out of my current setup for close to seven years now, but I realize that the time has finally come to retire the old workhorse and go for something more modern and up-to-the-task.

My problem is me being piss-poor due to moving, starting new job, etc., so my budget is currently a bit stingy. At this moment in time I can afford about $1500 without resorting to rice & ketchup for the next two months.

I should also note that I only 5-Box. Never more, nor will I in the future.

Any immediate thoughts on it? Could I do better for the listed price?

Also, I am aware that a new series is around the corner. I am however in a bit of a hurry, and have been told that there is such a big demand on the new cards that I would probably have to wait a while after launch before getting my hands on one.

Whats the name of your current/old cpu?

Did you play at 1080p, dirx-11-legacy, using slot swap macro, 60 fps max front, 25 gps max background, slaves at settings 1, main on like 3ish??

i7 4770.

1080p, and tried the slot swap-macros and settings -- yeah.

More people (on Discord) have reiterated that I should wait a bit before purchasing any graphics card, so I'll probably hold off a bit on that part. I might have a 970 stored somewhere as a (very) temporary option.

Then continue to use your old gpu for now. If you are happy with it, who knows.. then stick with it. Money saved.

Before christmas, i think you should be able to get something "around the performance of the old 2080 ti (if not even more)" for around 400-500 dollars (thats why i increased the powersupply watts a bit, to cover any spikes needed by a newer gpu).

It's painstakingly difficult to recommend any hardware right now, at their current prices, when:

1) New GPUs from nVidia are being released on the 17th and 24th of this month
2) New GPUs from AMD are being released in October/November
3) New CPUs from AMD are being released in October/November

Yeah, fair point. I realize that I should just hold off. Might cause a lot of headaches, but will be worth it in the end. Last time I upgraded I bought a 970 just a couple of months before the next series were launched. Always regretted that.

Ya that overall seems like a pretty steep price to pay for the GPU on the initial piece. If you can hold off, you'll be saving significantly or getting something much better.

I feel like I just upgraded and new hardware is already coming out. Is Moore's law already toast?

Hell I want the RTX 3080, for 699.99 seems like a steal. Maybe evga will have it for 499-599. Hot dog!

Completely agree with all above - hold off for another month if you can. Even if you decide to stay with exactly what you have picked out already, it should be on clearance shortly.
