Default Is multiboxing currently sustainable without gold reserves?

    Hey everyone!

I'm a brand new multiboxer as of a couple of weeks ago. I started this adventure mostly out of curiosity, and I'm enjoying it quite a lot. I leveled a 5 druid team and then spent the last two weeks unlocking flying (dumbass me didn't realize I could create multiple WoW accounts on the same Bnet account to share flying).

Anyway, now I've started to look at farming gold. I'm not really interested in making gold per se, but I would like to be able to farm enough gold so that I can pay for the multibox setup without having to spend real world money. Unfortunately, herb prices are insanely low nowadays (Zin'anthid go for 6g on my server), and after a few tests I've barely been able to break 2k/hour of farming. I've also looked a at couple of raw gold farm, but I've been able to reach 1k/hour at most (a 5 man team isn't ideal for that anyway).
Overall it means I would need to farm 3-4 hours every single day to pay for the tokens required, which is simply not feasible.

So I'm asking you all, with the current low prices, are you able to finance your multibox setup? If so, with what methods? How long do you have to farm to pay for a token?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, otherwise I'm probably gonna have to set it all to rest until Shadowlands.

Generally if I'm doing most of the emissaries on at least two teams, getting paragon chests, etc. Doing the weekly/biweekly uldum/other one. I can pay for all my subs that way with the raw gold that those activities get you. That being said it doesn't give much more gold than the subs themselves

If you want more gold than that, you'll need to start actually farming or doing more teams.

Do you do just the gold emissaries or all the emissaries to get more paragon chests?

Do you have a team comp to recommend just for this raw gold setup? With just emissaries/assaults my 5 man team won't be enough so I would need a second one, I would welcome any tips you have.

I do all the emissaries or at least all the emissaries where the quest selection doesn't look intimidating and mostly I do it every 3rd day.

I normally 8 box these days, first team is fury warrior, disc priest, resto druid and 5 bm hunters
Second team is 2 boomkins, ret pally, havoc dh, ele shaman, frost mage, shadow priest, frost dk. Basically as diverse a team as I could possibly make using the toons that I already had leveled.

Needless to say the first team is stronger, second team dies a little bit when doing the 8.3 content but is stronger in pvp (since melee is easier to face targets). All that to say you can pretty much use whatever teams you like.

Alright thanks for the info, I'll see if I can get 50% there with my 5 man team, and if the math checks out I'll level a second team. Doing just emissaries and assaults shouldn't be too much time to pay for the whole setup.

Yeah I realized that was an option, but by the time I was already half-way through unlocking Pathfinder so I thought it would be a fun challenge to see it through. And I created the other bnet account using RAF, so I got a few bonuses in the process as well as a few months for free.

Battlenet 2 - I have 1 account only for AH stuff - 9 toon with there own bank to store mats 1=food. 1=ore 1=tansmog etc. that account pay the rest.
Interesting, do you know approximately how much farming you do on top of the emissaries to pay for the rest of the tokens? Or do you rely on previous stocks/gold currently?

That's where I went first, but mostly they talk about farming herbs (which isn't very profitable anymore), shuffles (which doesn't benefit from a multibox setup) and AH flipping (which I suck at and I hate it). And since the entire wow population seems to hate multiboxing now (that was a surprise, I remember that people used to like or at least tolerate it), I'm not sure asking for advice in that sub would be a good idea

Does that mean I can move a WoW account to my new Bnet account and get pathfinder on the new account?

Yes - thats why I did it, came back to the game 2 month before legion and found out I had to do all the pathfinder stuff 2 times again.

( but all pathfinder stuff have to be unlocked on that account, so all rep, all quest etc. and if you have something only unlocked with that account it follows with the move like legendary weapons etc.).

Remember we get WoD and Legion flying in SL

As you can see with the number af teams - I like leveling - and with that comes there professions - transmute herbs to anchors, pets, toy, mounts, gear etc. Make it and Sell it.

When I´m running like motherlode on my 5 pala with Engineering to get what I need to make the mount x 5 -(only one part you need from mystic) I get raw gold, green, cloth etc. I scrap all greens (-weapon) to get explosium and take what they can use, everyting else is going to be used with other proffessions.

Jelly (bee mount) do still sells good and the price is better than herbs. and when all your team do pick the jelly when doing like WQ it add up. And if i`m farming the jelly it`s with my team that have herb/mining.
Atal'Dazar skinning shuffel I just do with with 5 hunters - why do it with 1 toon - when you have 5. and that is 7K logout (10 run I can do in 35 min)
Freehold with Tailoring - dungeon lockout run is like 15K
Some times I do 2x4 for 1 hour - can go as hight as 34K a hour with shuffel. and if a mount drop you made the cash for a week.
Fishing with a team is good money.

Farming is 1 hour for me - rest i game play - sure sometimes it can be more but I mix what I do, so I don´t burn out)

WoW Economy was more to get inspiration - just look at the sidebar and brunto success story - if one player can make 5 mill - a multiboxer can too.

Ekstra inspiration - find Babypowder's Guides on youtube.

If i just casually play and do the content i enjoy, i wont have anywhere close to the amount of gold needed per account, to buy a wow token each month.
It is possible, but then i would have to farm the same content and much much more a LOT, and i simply dont have the time or will to do that.
I got a full time job, so this would be a terrible time vs reward scenario for me.

    Options i got:

    1. farm (cba to farm anything any longer out in the world, like mobs or herbing).

    2. Use the AH (i have a excellent tsm setup ive used many years to perfect = my go-to method).

    3. Buy sub time with irl money.

    4. (farm raid trash boe's: this is something i do, while it is worth my time: sadly it only lasted like 7 weeks in this last raid). This isnt easy though. You need: ideally 20++ characters. Contacts within top guilds to get relevant saves in heroic and mythic mode in the early release of the new content. And the trash in this latest raid was no joke, i had to use all my skills to manage to kill them.

    5. If i was enjoying the game playing "solo", i could join a "boosting community" and sell various runs and get gold that way. You could even sell "masks runs" on your own etc.

Actually shuffling can be very profitable:
F.ex i used to farm my own cloth and had 10 bank toons crafting a spesific item and then disenchanting it, back at the garrison near the mailbox, using macros assigned to the same buttons i used to farm the mobs out in the wild, at the same time. Around every 45 min the farmers bags where full and i then sent the cloth to the bankers using tsm mailing operations). I had some delete macroes in there aswell, which was used quite often, so that anything that wasnt the cloth, boe's or mounts i was looking for, got deleted from the bags. Those got sent to other relevant ah toons, to be sold of, also using tsm mailing operations. All my farming toons had the ability to spawn a mailbox.

*as you may know, the current risk of getting banned while farming mobs is VERY high, if you have any laps of attention and missing the "bot checks": so unless you are able to keep a very very very close watch on all your games, this is not recommeded. You must be able to clearly see all the screens and whats happening in them. You cant "watch youtube etc" on the side: "zoning out for 10 min" = you could find yourself logged out and banned.

If you cant be bothered to farm yourself, you could ask around and ask farmers to c.o.d you items, for a price you both like. While at the same time, also run a tsm sniper for the cloth/items you want, so you can buy any additional items cheaply.

Figuring out which kind of "shuffle" will be profitable: well, thats a thing you have to figure out for yourself. Supply and demand vary throughout the year. With effort... come rewards.. if done correctly.

    Sidenote:
you dont have to do any farming yourself: you can "farm" of the AH or others players instead (like buying from farmers at a discount), then do your "shuffle thing").
