Your naming convention is so good for this. Outside of that, the only other way to really accomplish this would really be through time and the learning curve of adjusting to the playstyle and pure muscle memory for when to do what. I'm definitely not really willing to put in the time to adjust to the system today, but I will probably look to move to a system like this in SL.

One other thing I've toyed with is using a clickbar to set focus using a /focus mouseover macro. It doesn't free up your mouse so I'm not sure how useful that really is, but it does eliminate the need to sit there and click spam when you're trying to deal with other things.
Pretty much has the same-ish ideas about this kind of setup. The reason I've opted for more clicking options until now is that I've been running larger teams. For 10-15 toons I just don't think keybinds are all that feasible. Since I'm now running just 5, the keybinds start to make a lot more sense and so I've added them as well on top the click heals and being able to assign focus with the mouse. More choices is rarely bad.

As far as the alignment I personally found that since my party frame is vertical and sorted alphabetically, I could just have the keybinds (ctrl+1-5 currently) correspond to focusing to each character in that visual order from left to right. Seems simple enough to get used to.
