I ran into the same problem with my group. Today in Mech the big demon guys did a pounce which made my focus assist target of target not work. So I almost wiped because my group wouldnt attack unless I was now punced. The two demons were chain pouncing my tank. It sucked. Also, that instance is not multibox friendly.

The /assist thing after a disorient is a bug. Clear your targets and reacquire and it should function. I just have my mages frost nova the guys on a disorient and use an exorcism to bring it back (I usually kill one before the first disorient). If both are still up i'll just run over and cons.

You will have to give examples of instances and mobs and your group composition. ZG was my first painful encounter, not MC but that froggy hex really screwed me up.
I'm not running a tank, which helps, but I had trouble in ZG too... I learned to "tap back" on my other 4 shaman, so they were no longer following my main. So if my main got hexed, they kept still and kept shooting.

Remember, you can still past targets when you're hexed, and even when you're dead for that matter.
If I remember correctly I couldn't assist or select targets while hexxed, the same as being MCed. The hex can be dispelled though so I made macros to dispel/decurse/cleanse each one of my characters by name. Whenever the tank got hexxed I would dispel it asap. Then you just had to clear your target and re-target due to the targeting bug.

Crypts: As others stated, low hp, just watch for them as soon as you engage and burn them down first.
Slave Pens: I would CC them and then burn them down with a pally stun thrown in or just target them first and burn them down asap. Without a pally you will have to try and use any other spell interuption you've got, counterspell maybe, no idea what the cast time on their MC is.
    Sethekk: trivial

On a good note, I haven't run into any more MC mobs except Blackheart (but that is something completely different) and Pathaleon but he doesn't MC the tank. Some of the demons in Mech also disorients the tank and run over and beat on your group.

Only soothsayers mind control in slave pens. When running the heroic version with +1000 damage mages I have seen 8000 damage (non-crtit) fireballs from my charmed mages (the charm seems to have a 2-3x damage multiplier built in). There are only three soothsayer pulls you have to pull and they are all enchanter+soothsayer+2xwarrior. The trick to killing them is killing them fast and keeping them stunned (paly stun works well). The charm is insta cast so it cannot be interrupted.

I also have a macro to auto interrupt charmed party members. Looks like this:

    cast [harm,nodead,target=party1] [harm,nodead,target=party2] [harm,nodead,target=party3] [harm,nodead,target=party4] Counterspell

As long as nobody is charmed the macro does nothing but when charmed the party member is classified as harm and the macro will fire on him/her

I really like Counterspell macro. Thanks Ziran, I'll be setting up that macro.

Thanks all for the advice. I now have some more options to help me survive.

    Counterspell (Spellcaster MC)
    Silence (Spellcaster MC)
    Frost Nova followed by backpedal
Backup targeting to for MC classes
Best for last ... Killing MC mob first

I like to drop Stoneclaw Totems if someone gets MC'd... seems to work most of the time.

Phantasmal Possessor, these guys have maybe 2-3K HP and do absolutely nothing but cast the mind control which takes like 10 seconds to get off? Basically they should never get off a MC unless you're half asleep or just playing sloppy TBH.

Time-Lost Controller, remember they are Undead so you get some extra spells to use depending on your group makeup (Turn Evil, Shackle, Exorcism, etc). And, they take some time to drop the charming totem so just target and burn these 1st even without a stun or silence they almost always drop before the totem goes down. I do have a macro to target and blow up the charming totem though just in case. I am pretty sure that Grounding Totem does not work on the MC.

Coilfang Soothsayer / Coilfang Enchantress - Generally only one of these per pull so you again just DPS them first. I think Grounding Totem will eat the MC, anyone confirm? but it's been a while since I did Slave Pens. I found the fear/horror to be far more dangerous than the MC in here.

I noticed you mentioned Achenai Crypts and their Controller mobs.

    DO NOT DO ACHENAI CRYPTS.

You will fail vs the first boss unless you are the god of multiboxers (or overgeared).

Crypts = Possessor... the Controllers are in Sethekk.
