    Default Macro help

So I am trying to learn macros (thanks in previous post). Watched a ton of videos and pulled off a lot of them, but having issues with a basic attack macro to cycle through like 5 spells/CA's and then reset.

Let's just make it easy: Lvl 24 Hunter - I have available my pet, cobra shot, Kill Command, Barbed Shot, Bestial Wrath and Bite.

I just want a simple macro that casts all of those in some order as I spam my "1" key and resets when the target dies. Super simple, but for some reason I can't get spell/combat art abilities like this to work and it's killing me.... on either of my teams. Heal spells I can do no problem, but attacks they either stop if a spell/CA isn't highlighted and other stuff. Still have all my spells/CA's on individual numbers and now that I am headed into Dungeons I need to make things smoother heh.

And one thing that is confusing to me, if I do a cast sequence and list like 5 spells, if one spell isn't "active" and able to cast when it is it's turn, it seems to just sit there and wont go to next one if its' dark and stays there permanently. So for certain spells that need to be triggered by others, is there a way to make your cast sequence only cast it if it is "ready" and if it isn't it moves on to the next?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the noob question.

Its possible to create another "step" within your nr 1 keybind. Lets say you assign this to "ctrl+g, which is a spell named kill command. Whenever you spam the nr 1 key, it will also click ctrl+g (which will fire off the spell, if its off cooldown). Alternativly, if this spell isnt a instant spell / proc, but f.ex a spell you can only use every 10 secs, you can check the box above within this step: "do not go futher intill x secs have passed", which then only tries to click ctrl+g every 10 secs.

    This creates lots of possibilities.

Its also possible to add a spell on its own, on the very bottom of a macro, and usually it will prio to fire it off, whenever its available.

    Random example:

    /castsequence............
    /cast nameofspell
    /use 13 (uses trinket nr 1)
    /use 14 (uses trinket nr 2)

HFS bro... I read your post 6 times and am even more lost now. I literally got dizzy. I have no idea what you mean.... I know you know what you mean and I do appreciate you taking the time.... but I dont even know where to start now based on the example of the 24 hunter I put above. Just a basic spam macro for all the dmg spells and it resets when the MOB dies. I need to get that to work then I can take the next step heh

So I did this and all of them worked:

    #showtooltip
/castsequence Bestial Wrath, Kill Command, Barbed Shot, Cobra Shot, Cobra Shot, Cobra Shot

However. When I went to kill the next MOB the timer for Bestial Wrath still had a minute left so the macro didn't work, it just showed the timer countdown. Is it possible for this macro to pass up that spell if it is not available or any that are on cooldown and just do the ones in order that aren't on cooldown?

Well, if you are creating a castsequence, it will try to cast the spells in the order you told it to. If your timing if way off and you f.ex included a spell in there, which has a long cooldown, it will stop on that spell and it wont progress untill it becomes available. These kind of spells are hard to use on castsequences, especially if you want to create a reset=target castsequence.

Your best bet is to... find a guide for your class, if need be, like on icy-veins.com, then visit a training dummy. Here you can place the spells temperarly on the hotbar and start dpsing. Just switch them around, untill you have found a rotation that works for you and how fast you are able to regain resources, like "focus". Then, create a castsequence reset=target .... macro, based on your findings. Sometimes it can be difficult to create one, then consider making a reset=combat instead.

Personally i use to create a custom:
    1. Single target macro.
    2. Aoe damage macro.
    3. Instant spells snipe tag on target macro.
    4. Mini dps cooldows spells that didnt fit in other macros. If possible, place this within a second step in 1 and 2 above.
    5. Mini nuke spell, like a instant heart of azeroth/neck spell.
    6. Use major dps cooldowns which has a long cooldown macro.

If, for some reason, a certain spell doesnt work well in a macro, if possible, consider choosing a different talent spell or choose a passive talent instead.

Sidenote: as a hunter, you should consider adding at the top of every dps macro: /petattack ... so the pet gets into action quicker.

Its kinda hard to just hand out a macro, it can depend on your current talents, haste stat on gear and such. Sometimes you could benefit visiting a training dummy to finetune the macros as needed.

On a positive note, hunter is a veeery easy class to figure out, compared to many others.

I would go with the GSE: Gnome Sequencer Enhanced : Advanced Macros
    https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addon...dvanced-macros

    and learn on the way....

https://wowlazymacros.com/ has marcos from other player to use

This is PERFECT.... in the description of GSE it says:
GSE allows you create a sequence of macros to be executed at the push of a button. Like a /castsequence macro, it cycles through a series of commands when the button is pushed. However, unlike castsequence, it uses macro text for the commands instead of spells, and it advances every time the button is pushed instead of stopping when it can't cast something. This means if a spell is on cooldown and you push the button it will continue to the next item in the list with each press until it reaches the end and starts over. It comes with an editor and everything you need to get started.

Hah, that is PRECISELY what I want... woohoo, thank you.

Boom, didn't even think of that. That's exactly what I will do to test....didn't really know about those but see them everywhere.... makes sense now.

I second what Tin has posted. There are optimized macros for every class that people post. You'll need to look through the macro and maybe delete some abilities that your character doesn't have yet but overall it's a 1 button click.

I use these in conjunction with steps and similar in Isboxer, but this will get you off to the right start.
