Doing Rend in UBRS with A WMMMP group

Has anyone had any luck with Rend? Ive got him down once but i have to many issues with the tank being encased in Ice and then he does the punt to drop all tank aggro and goes after the rest of the group and prompty wipes me

Is there a way to avoid the dreaded ice block + punt combo other than get lucky with resist?

Despite my party is quite well equipped (warrior and priest in full T1 / MC/BWL epics; mages in partial T1 & pre-raid bis), I'm unable to sustain the event due to the high magic resist of the mobs.

In the end a new wave comes in while I still killing the prior (pretty much 2nd / last group before rend), and handling 1 1/2 groups plus double boss , well... keeping aggro and killing stuff isn't the problem, but mage/priest mana at some point.

Every other instance, boss w/e is piece of cake.
How do you manage the event overall? Any lack of dps?
