Default What’s your opinion? Moving from team of 3 to 5?

Old Fart player here. Use to multi box even back in the Ever Crack days and through DAOC etc. Somehow never really got into multi boxing in vanilla except the odd time to use my brothers toon maybe to run a low or through a dungeon.

started multi boxing here just alt-tabbing and then found these forums and have been introduced to isoboxer and clique heals with repeater regions and am feeling pretty good about things. I have a horde 3 man team and an alliance 3 man team, but what I am really wondering is should I snag two extra accounts and make them into 5 man teams? Is it going to be worth it? Between the fun, the challenge, the ability to do more sooner.....etc. Am I hampering myself by sticking to 3 man teams and limiting myself to much? Is it really worth the extra two subscriptions per month?

BTW both my current teams are run as a Lock, Mage & Priest.

thanks for the advice and for all the info and knowledge in the other posts!

I think it is definitely worth it. If you do add 2 subscriptions I would Recruit-A-Friend (RAF) your 2 new accounts as, while you don't get the in game items, on Classic you do get the free subscription benefits (if I recall correctly basically every 3 RAF subscriptions is a free subscription so your 2 new ones should only cost you 1.33 subscriptions).

New 5 boxers should be able to RAF all of their accounts and get 1.67 subscriptions free and thus only have to pay a net 3.33 going forward if the program keeps paying in perpetuity.

well I decided to heed the advice and have added two new accounts and am now catching up a couple more mages to play with the lock/priest/mage I already had going. Hopefully this works out nicely and let’s me have some fun trying dungeons and learning new strategies.

My Lock and Main Mage were at 20 and the priest was at 18, so as soon as I got the 2 new mages to 16 I headed into Deadmines to give it a shot. Made it up to the 2nd boss but ran out of mana on the priest during his 2nd phase and died.....didn’t get a chance to head back in as it was to late but will keep going and see if I can finish it off.

I do sort of wonder if I will regret not having a real tank....but heck right now those 3 mages AE blast very nicely!

IF you learn how to use your team, it can be pretty good.. right now people feel 4mages+priest are the best for farming dungons for gold. There are a lot of great posts in threads like this one>> https://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/...MMMMP-AoE-spec. Im not sure how having a lock in place of one mage changes things..i think the benefits would help ( tank pet ) .. and being able to soulstone your priest..being able to summon group members back when they port back to sell/repair ect.

    Congrats on the 5box team.

Personally I recommend waiting for DM/VC until 20 (and then train up before going in) and would grind the level 17-18 Crawlers on the Hyperspawn list to 20:

If you haven't already I think you have upto 7 days to Recruit-A-Friend yourself to give yourself almost 1 free subscription (potentially in perpetuity).

When you get higher levels (40+) you can try to use the Warlock as Tank by going the SoulLink route though you may need to get to 60 for everything to come together (not 100% sure). I personally haven't tried it and would love to hear back if you do try it. I posted links for it on another thread and can look for those if you are interested.

Edit: I went ahead and searched and found the best discussion on Warlock Tanks I could find. It starts on the following post and continues through a few posts with links:

Note: In re-reading the guides linked Warlock Tanks really benefit from having a Paladin Healer due to Concentration Aura (Improved) stacking with the PVP Searing Pain gloves (plus the lowering of aggro on teammates). A Horde Warlock Tank can only get 50-60% immune to pushback on Searing Pain but an Alliance Warlock Tank can easily get 100% immune with a Paladin in the party/raid.

I really like having at least 1 lock on my team as the utility is really great and you can play a lock much like a mage.

Currently for my lock team I have on my 6th account a 60 Mage for free ports/water/food. If I was doing Mages I would at least have a Lock on my 6th account though I like having at least 1 Lock actually in the party more than 1 Mage.

i know this is for classic and my answer for classic would be that as a team of 3 you would only miss out on the convenience of instant solo 5man dungeons. As 3 you will likely have an easier time raiding for gear and the difference between the two teams would be negligible.

As for retail, MoP was really trying hard to insert the 3man meta events, but people hated it, BFA tried again, but people hate it. Arenas were 3man, but they handicapped us there. I dropped to 3 during MoP, and i think it was the only worthwhile time to do so. BFA i considered it until the /follow changes to arena. I think they've given up on the idea of 3man events, because Shadowlands is extremely 5man friendly. All the stuff i'd expect to be 3man scenarios are set to 5man in Shadowlands. Especially one of their main sellers, the tower and the corruption scenarios. The corruption scenarios are looking to be some kind of cross between Garrisons and Withered army training, but doable in 5mans.

So for classic, 3man teams are great if you raid for your gear and dont mind finding 2 others for 5mans.
For retail, 5man or more is the only way to go imo.

The replacement for 3 mans is scaling instances that scale up to 5 man. So if your a solo player, a 2 boxer or 5 boxer, it all works. 5 is still going to be best if you enjoy dungons. We are getting the first iteration of these scaling instances in the next update for BFA 8) I cant wait!

Thanks for the info and tips. Spent a fair amount of time reading through the warlock tanking information and really glad I had added the lock to my group after going down that rabbit hole.

The worst part about finding these forums is reading to much and then wondering what different teams would be like and wanting to try them all! Trying to remind myself to focus and just keep going with the team I have first and then I can screw around. 🙃🙃
