If you are running ISboxer you can easily control both ForeGround and Background FPS settings via:

    https://isboxer.com/wiki/CPU_Strategy_Wizard

If you are not running ISboxer, there may be other ways, but I initially did it via MSI Afterburner's RivaTuner (these days I just do it via ISboxer). It may have been the case back then that either ISboxer didn't have the features for this yet (though it does now) or I just didn't know how to do it via ISboxer... I remember in the older MSI version I used back then being able to set it graphically for both ForeGround and BackGround but according to this thread these days you can set the ForeGround from the GUI but set the BackGround via a config file (either Globally or for the game's application profile):

    https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/dd3ou3/automatically_limiting_fps_in_background_using/

When I was exceeding the limits of my laptop I remember testing various BackGround FPS settings as low as 2-8 for my WoW clients and other games and they made huge differences on my laptop's temperatures and utilization though some were too low for things to work consistently (follow got messed up, commands were lost sometimes, etc). Different games can handle different minimums and I could be wrong but I think back then I settled in at 8 FPS for WoW but likely the appropriate thing is to try various settings to see what works best for you in your environment.

    Aw shucks.

I could 5box OK back in Vanilla->BC but kept over-heating when I tried to move up to a 10box in BC until I found the above tweaks so I know from experience it can extend your hardware to do more... Hopefully it allows you to move to a full 5box so you can do dungeons more easily.

Please report back which path(s) you went down and let us know how things go for you.

Actually i was "fine" in performance with 5 mbox.
But I didn't like seeing my processor 100% all day.
So, I used MSI AB to keep the background screens at 15 fps and the main screen 30-35 fps.
I modified the original value from "IdleLimitTime = 100000" to "IdleLimitTime = 50000".
