Aside from reacting to being feared, you can also proactively prevent yourself from being feared. Pay attention to priests running towards you as a pretty clear indicator they want to psychic scream you. If you play mages, preemptively silence warriors when they charge and then kill them before they can fear, etc.
In Classic it's generally better to counter things proactively rather than reacting after you've been hit.
You can also build a shadow resist set for team comps that don't have any inherent way of dealing with fear. You can get over 130 shadow resist from dungeon blues which will significantly increase the chances of fear either missing you entirely or breaking early. This works particularly well for druids since you can shift out of most other forms of CC.
