As alliance (I did this just last week)

The Dwarf starting area is a bit more kind on kill quests compared to the human areas. I found this out the hard way after it was too late. I slowly grinded on bore and bears. I found Dun to be least inhabited compared to human area. Leveled skinning and mining in the process. Then focused on killing humanoids, for the cloth. Picking areas out of the way is ideal. There is no etiquette at these levels, everyone's gotta be first. What that translates too is everyone tagging your mobs or leap frogging you on quest stuff. No one is going to wait their turn.

But picking areas off the beating path you can get a lot of trade skilling done, while level a bit slower.

When your group is young like this, it won't be as powerful as you'd hope yet. With no taunt or a way to hold aggro, you can't get too carried away.

After you feel like you've lost the will the live, hopefully your level 16 by now. This is a bit low to head in to dead mines. However, no one can harass you in there. Once your in the instance you'll just grind to the second door. You'll defeat the first boss, then once you reach the next door, that's a good place to stop and reset.

Once you hit 18 you can start farming for the ring from the goblin boss.

Once you hit 20, life is good. Now would be a good time to visit the AH and gear your tank. You can put on STA and STR rings and stuff. Which point your good to go! you should be able to farm that just fine.

If you run a tailor/enchant you'll be 150 capped on both by level 20 no problem as well.

On Horde side, I do 1-12 in the starting area
12-14 I do FedEx, while grinding every thing on my way to Silverpine, grab flight point in The Sepulcher, fly to UC and grab the quest from Varimathras, then take the zeppelin to Orgrimmar, grab all the RFC quests, and do Hidden Enemies from Thrall. Just grinding on the mobs to get 5x Lieutenant's insignia get s you a level or two. Once you are on the final leg of Hidden Enemies, clear bags and run into RFC. If you are still only 12-13, I just grind on the first part up to the troggs and reset.
14-18 RFC From 14 on, grind in RFC, turning in quests as I go if the reward is an upgrade. I skip the demon boss on caster only teams after doing the quest once, and just grind the packs around him, and reset. If the group is going well, I stay in RFC right up to 18.
18-19 WC Prep I head to Crossroads, and do the prereq quests for leaders of the fang, and grab the quest from Ratchet for the 99 year old Port. Then to Thunderbluff again to get the final quest for Leaders of the fang, and the Serpentbloom quest. Also grab the 2 quests from the cave above WC.
19-22 WC grinding (Make sure to have a skinner up to 90 skinning, otherwise lots of leather is wasted, even if you just vendor it) I sometimes will skip some of the gathering on a toon or two, especially if their exp is ahead of the others (I sometimes run with a buddy taking one of my toons slots, so my exp is often up to 1 level apart) The Deviate Hides and Serpentbloom quests are a chore! I mostly care about getting the weapon upgrades from the Leaders of the fang quest.
At 22 I head to Orgrimmar, then take the Zeppelin to Brill, pick up the SFK quest in UC, fly to Silverpine, set hearth to Sepulcher, and grab all the SFK quests
22-27 SFK grinding. I only go to the end boss on casters if I need the cloth gear. For everyone else, it's faster to just reset after killing Odo. At 27, If I still haven't killed Arugal, finish him for the final quest, then turn everything in
28 I hit up BFD at least once, if only for the quests. There's a decent Wand upgrade for casters.
29 I either hit up RFK or head to SM. I always look up any potential dungeon quests beforehand, and only grab the ones that are either convenient (i.e. not a long ass chain) or offer great rewards.
30-44 SM grinding. I hearth in Brill for convenience. Depending on what gear I need, I grind on the lower level instances until I can do the higher ones. For my Shaman team I grinded in Armory until 44 trying to get all the gear from Herod, mixing in Cathedral runs to keep it interesting. My other teams are just about to start SM, but for casters, I plan on farming Library for the staff, and only doing Armory once, because I hate that place at this point.

That's as far as I am so far, but I plan on hitting up Uldaman, Maraudon, and Zul'Farrak multiple times on each team for gear drops, depending on the team's needs. Probably farming a lot of Maraudon for the BIS gear, then off to Sunken Temple, and Blackrock Depths.

Probably won't do too much of Scholomance and Stratholme until 58-59, or until the gear fills out. At 60 just farming whatever dungeons drop the gear I need is my plan. Beyond that, who knows?

Thank you everyone for the detailed leveling routes and linking to quests was really helpful.
I'll do the Horde side tips later for my mix team. Questing Level 1 - 17 was slow especially on gather quests and encountered some hate DMs that I just ignored.

Hope for more inputs here. Quests links will be really appreciated.

I really find it slow when I reached level 8 in Dun Morogh. Just to add to your post, here's a path on how you can go to Darkshore from Dun Morogh fast. So far I can see better quest in Darkshore and my 4 mages + Priest can kill red mobs fine.

Out door grinded until lvl 14 with a quest here and there. Then did dungeons with round robin sheep/nova/cs, single target dmg until late 30's, when I could spec aoe+shatter. That's when it went a lot faster. It's probably a good idea to spec aoe sooner.

For my aoe spec I did use frostbite, which you usually don't take, because it makes it harder to keep the pack together. But with 5 mages it procs so often and you kill so fast, it's actually great.

RFC: I could go fast and kill all bosses easily with 5 mages.
WC: I just did the first boss and reset, not that fast.
RFK: I just did the lower part where the escort quest is.
SM: I could kill all bosses by using ice block on the mage that was taking damage. XP was pretty good once I specced AOE. Even though I could not do big pulls.
    ZF: Did graveyard runs
Sunken Temple: I cleared the packs on the upper ring, and then reset
BRD: Killed all the packs on the left. Between Beal'Gar and the gate
LBRS: Killed all the packs at the start until the first bridge in LBRS

Not having a healer and being just 1 person controlling all mages means it's hard to do big pulls, so I did pretty small ones. I didn't go nearly as fast as good spell cleave groups, but I did go faster than the average dungeon groups.

The reason I got a decent time to 60 wasn't because I was killing fast, it was because (at least after 30) I didn't waste much time. I stopped worrying about how fast I was going. I just kept going, and didn't waste time trying to find ways to go faster. That's something I did a lot in the past and it slowed me down a lot.

I may give this a try.. Thanks man, your input is really valuable.
