First Post on the Forum ! Thanks to all for the advice and wisdom I have been able to access on the forums over the last year or so since finding this site. That being said, I would like to start contributing so here goes...

Regarding Group Comps: I struggled and struggled to find something that worked for me in Classic. In retail I have two teams; Druids x 5 & Hunters x 5.

I attempted with much frustration to make those two teams + warlocks x 5 and shamans x 5, only to give up once dungeons became part of my leveling plan. While those type of teams seem to scream up to levels 10-15, the minute I entered a dungeon, I struggled. And trust me, no videos were made nor would ever be shared of those chaotic, angst filled hours. So... to the forums I went...

It seems as though there are a lot of people doing Tank / Healer / 3 x something or 2 x something + 1 for added Utility (W, P, M, M, M) or (W, P, M, M, W) for example. I saw lots of posts for groups like this so I thought I'd give it a try. FINALLY I made some progress. Then I started to feel a little unhappy...

Was my group functional? Yes. There seems to be absolutely nothing wrong with a Trinity Comp. You can do dungeons, kill stuff for quests, just about anything you want to do, the group does it without complaint. I went with the W,P,M,M,W; so hearth-stoning + summoning or teleporting + Summoning is super efficient. I forgot who gave that advice along the way, but it is such an amazing time saver in Classic that without that little gem of info, I'd probably still be broke in game.

The real issue I had with this group was that because I was so used to playing 5 x same class in Retail, that I felt clunky (read: no synergy, etc. that people post about). I tried driving from the priest and couldn't get the hang of it, went to click through healing while driving from the tank and that was a lot better. For those planning to play or struggling with a Trinity Comp - figuring out healing and driving is a must do. EMA + Healbot or Clique makes life so much easier. Thanks again for those tips.

After much debate, reading, starts, re-starts, configuring, I went with Mages x 4 + Priest. Viepax on the forums inspired me to give it a try and it worked. I no long feel like I'm working in game, so much as I feel like I'm having fun again. Afterall, I don't stream or make money in game, I play for the challenge and fun of the game. If I'm not having fun, money and time is being wasted. Worse yet, if I'm growing frustrated I am then wasting time and money to torture myself.

I think the comp works for a couple of reasons:

1) I played a mage as my first character and always loved playing the mage, although I never multiboxed a mage until now. Nuking is fun for me !
2) I don't want to spend time trying to hold agro, position mobs, or otherwise tank. If I want to do that, I'd rather roll solo on my war and get a regular group. That is not to say a tank or melee is bad, just that its not for me. It seems to be a playstyle thing, more than functionality. (especially given how truly tanky, tanks are in Classic)

Final thoughts on Group Comp: Keep going until you find the one that starts to no longer feel like you're working, whatever that might be. If you're like me and see or read about folks happy with shaman x 5 or trinity comps, etc., but just can't seem to get it smooth or fun, change it up. Go with warlocks and a healer or mages, etc. Leveling speed is a good way to measure your fun, but not the only way to measure; meaning, if you find yourself doing things that are cool and you're getting exp, awesome. Keep it up. If it feels like work work work... well there is (for most of us) RL work for that work feeling.

My best to you all.
