    Default 2 Paladins 3 Mages

This is one of my postings from some time ago:

My first group is going to be something like this for farming dungeons and getting started in general.

    1.Paladin tank (11/32/8)
    https://classicdb.ch/?talent#sxVzZVhtIxzVoV0h

    - Runs retribution aura (or other)
    - Buffs sanctuary on himself
    - Buffs kings to rest

    2.Paladin heal (33/11/7)
    https://classicdb.ch/?talent#sVxubgstxMuZVb

    - Runs improved devotion aura
    - Buffs kings to tank
    - Buffs improved wisdom/antiaggro to rest
    - Judges light/wisdom on boss/elite

    3. Mage (Arcane/Frost)
    4. Mage (Arcane/Frost)
    5. Mage (Arcane/Frost)
    https://classicdb.ch/?talent#oi0VcofquZVA0coc

    - Spamming arcane explosion on trash
    - Frostbolt on elites/bosses

    My question now is :

Is it worth speccing 1 of the 3 mages deeper into frost for the "winters chill talent"?
This could help killing bosses faster i guess when all three spamm frostbolts?
    Something like that : https://classicdb.ch/?talent#oi0VcofZZVA0coszA

    > Im just talking about 5-man content <

Most of the time your killing trash so i cant decide if its worth "gimping" one of
the three mages just for dungeon bosses.

    Any ideas?

Looks similar to what I’m going with except i may sub in a lock for a mage for soulstones, blood pact or fire shield and summons. If a pull goes badly it’s definitely nice to have a soulstone in use vs the long corpsewalk.

Don't bother with winter's chill. 5 man fights aren't long enough for it to be worthwhile and it takes too long to ramp up. If you go fire, though, improved scorch is very nice

Yes that instant pyroballs are nice too.

So something like this? : https://classicdb.ch/?talent#oi0Vcofquxg0zfZ0b

I guess when every mage casts scorch 1 time it should be enough? or how high does it stack?

I always thought frost would to more damage in 5 man dungeons without raid gear or am i wrong.
You dont need that much +krit to make the spec work.

I'd just stick with arcane frost on all the mages.

I would consider swapping the holy paladin for a priest if you're only interested in PvE though. Having group heals and an offensive dispel is pretty useful. The only reason to choose a paladin over a priest as a 5man healer is if you intend to PvP a lot and want the extra survivability of a paladin.

I planned this group around my prot paladin to have max support when aoe farming (sure 10% stam are missing from priest or warlock..or the warlock fire damage buff..but you cant have everything) Its just my fun farming team... run in...spam arcane explosions... and loot. im going to build another team with warrior and priest later

i could replace a mage with a warlock...but i dont want to micro manage rain of fire.. im a lazy bastard ..arcane explosionzzzzz

I think you have it the wrong way around. Priest has more support for a paladin and paladin has better support for a warrior.

I want to have both salvation and kings on my dps. You can only archive this with 2 paladins. Same with my protpaladin, which will be my farmmain.
This way he got kings+sanctuary+devoaura+ret aura. I dont see a priest be a better support for my protpaladin with the only benefit is 10% stam and shadow resist . When im doing everything right i dont need aoe heals from the priest. My holypaladin can fokus heal the tank and when shit hits the fan he can bubble and heal.

Sure a setup with a priest can work as well. But thats not the point here.

You could also make a massive thorns team later who knows.. we got all time in the world...something like :

1.) Protpaladin : sanctuary buff + retaura + thorns gear
    2.) Holypaladin : kings buff + devoaura
3.) Druid : improved thorns + improved MotW
4.) Warlock : improved imp for better firedamage buff + 10%stam
5.) Mage : int buff + AOE DPS

    ..wild stuff can happen...

Can you explain in a little more detail why pally priest i have also been planning pally pally same as dreadone. same as him i thought running the cross buffs on pallys and having wisdom on mages would be better?

Two paladins don't really do much for mages. All you need is salvation. Kings is a minimal DPS increase of perhaps 1-2% crit if you have enough intellect on your gear. Wisdom is negligible past level 20-30 since your pulls will last ~30 seconds and you'll drink after every pull with a paladin tank anyway. Wisdom is 39ish mana per 5 when talented, which means on an average trash pull of around 30 seconds you'll gain ~230 mana from wisdom. That's not even one arcane explosion. Wisdom is great in longer fights (raids) but it doesn't do a lot for you in short fights. Especially when you have free water from mages to drink between every pull.

One paladin gives you either kings/sanctuary on your tank, wisdom on your healer and salvation on your DPS. That's all you need. Likewise, I always use retribution aura on my tank. Devotion aura isn't bad but it's nowhere near as strong as priests inspiration which is straight 25% armor increase on your tank for 15 seconds every time a heal crits. Inspiration is huge.

Priest is just a stronger dungeon healer overall. You get a HoT, shield, party-wide heals, shackle, fear and an offensive dispel to remove annoying buffs like the fire aura on Scarlet Wizards.

If you plan on PvPing a lot I'd choose paladin because they're much tankier when you get jumped by rogues or warriors. In PvE priest is the superior choice by a fair margin IF you already have one paladin in your party for salvation.
