Default looting by not looting; relying on the Postmaster- is it viable?

How much gold would 5 man boxers lose % wise if they never looted but were mailed missed loot by the postman?

I doubt any accurate information on this exists since it's completely dependent on how many mobs (and which ones) you happen to kill, so your estimation is as good as anyone else's. My gut feeling is that it's not all that substantial compared to for example the gold generated by questing while leveling. This is assuming we're talking about "normal" gameplay and not mass-farming mobs.

I however do not know how if any of the non-looted items that drop are missed by the postal service as well. If there are a any/some and you kill substantial amounts of mobs, then it could start adding up naturally. What you consider to be negligible is also highly subjective, so some might want all the vendorables and disenchantables, while others are fine losing them.

I'd however point out that looting is not all that troublesome nowadays with the addition of AOE looting and Loot-a-rangs that are available to any character with lvl 1 engineering.

For me, I’ve gone the Loot-a-rang method on every character. . I bind it to the same hot key on each character and hit it after every pack of mobs dies. Yes, you’re giving up a trade skill slot on each character, but I’m an alt-whore and have more than enough characters to cover each trade skill 10-fold.

thanks for replys.. side note I am coming back to 5boxing after a ten year break where I just single played WoW. I am coming back to 5 box classic and by my tests in retail I spend too much time IWT aoe looting. I know its because of the heirlooms I cant seem to play without but "speed running" 5 man dungeons for gold might be faster if I never stopped to loot. Using lootarangs with aoe looting is brilliant solution but classic gives up aoe looting. Thank you

Same here. Although my Hunters can just use Fetch, and have mining/herbing.

I do believe that the raw gold from looting does not make it to the postmaster. He must skim that off the top for his finders fee.

I'd recommend looting what you can, but not sweating missing anything, as the super valuable stuff will make its way to you.

The postmaster doesn't send you gold, does it ? so you'd leave all that on the table

It'd be interesting to experiment though: go somewhere, kill 100 mobs and loot them all; kill 100 more without looting; what do you get in the mail ?

Not loot? Thats crazy talk. I doubt my OCD would even let me do that. lol

My hunters use Fetch and have mining/herbing, my only farming team. All my other toons have engineering 1 and use the loot a rang. I just cant go back to the IWT looting, just cant.

This might be a stupid question, but since when does the postmaster send you items? The only times that I received anything from the postmaster was when the loot was soulbound or if there was an epic/rare in a raid/dungeon boss. Oh, and also when there is some kind of special currency as apexis crystals or resources. Aside from that items do not seem to be sent to me.

That is exactly what OP was talking about. You receive all the BoE/BoP gear in your mailbox, so how much are you losing by leaving all the vendor trash and gold?

There's no way anyone can answer that question with any relative accuracy—it's just way too open ended. However, it's unclear which version of the game you're interested in when asking the question, because you're interested in Classic, but are currently practicing in Retail. So, if this pertains to Classic, then I doubt the Postmaster will be sending you anything other than mail from other characters (or, in the rare occurrence, a GM).
Do not send me a PM if what you want to talk about isn't absolutely private.
