Default Transitioning casual multibox characters for classic solo play and playing with friends

Hello! I'm planning to explore multiboxing when classic releases, but I haven't had any experience with it previously and I don't have accounts active to experiment.

My plan is going to start a family of dwarves, one of each class, on an RP server. Understandable that I'm not looking for an optimal group, and I'll be casually strolling through the game enjoying the challenges.

    • My biggest "problem" and question is about transitioning characters from this group into solo play when I want to. Are there specific ways to go about setting your characters up for both playstyles or am I overthinking it and you don't have to do anything specific besides logging in alone?

    • On the other hand, if I wish to group with a friend or 2 for some gaming, how easily is it manageable to replace one of my characters with a friends character? Is it possible to just log out of a character to the character selection screen or something without causing any problems with my groups setup hindering my ability to play them properly?

My apologies if I'm not in the right place, just theorizing different ways to play and enjoy the upcoming classic

I use the bar#1 for solo and bar#2 of buttons (you know that stuff with the number and the little arrows) for mboxing (less spells, more macros etc on that bar; aligned spells across characters...)

And yes you can drop one character from your group to help out - or just make 4 boxing teams that way you always have a slot open

I've had people tell me that multiboxing has "no place" on RP servers, but, in my opinion, multiboxing is a f'ing RP goldmine.

Sometimes, that's what it's all about.

Personally, I set up my action bars for playing solo and then work around that, but the way you go about setting up your team may be dependent on your choice of multiboxing software (or hardware).

Again, this is dependent on the software/hardware solution you choose, but when it comes to basic things, such as follow and assist, free software is going to require more from you to create a flexible setup, whereas paid software (in this case, ISBoxer), requires very little.

That second bar that you can change, I never thought of that, great idea! I'd rather have my full group first just in case, as I don't have irl friends who would join me on an RP server, so I mainly was thinking about people I meet along the way and guildies, but if it's feasible thats great! Thanks Moorea!

I know right! My plan is a group of dwarven cousins of sorts, who are annoying as hell in taverns bantering all the time, to sort of give a show when people seem bored around the place. If this all works out then I also have a plan for 3 mage sisters who are also annoying as hell.

I do plan on paying and using ISBoxer, if I'm gonna try out multiboxing I want to be doing it properly (I did try out a free software like 7 years ago but dont remember much). If I end up not liking it - or being really bad at it - by the time the first 3 months are up then I'll just leave it. (I figure if I pay 1 month of sub for accounts then the 1 week trial is not worth it, I'd rather pay the 3 months for both things)

So if those ideas of mine are easy to set up in ISBoxer, then that just lights a fire in my daydreaming classic hyped mind. Also I like what you said, to think of the characters as solo first and then group them, that way wont have problems separating them either. That will be my out look then to start it off. Thanks MiRai!

Just multibox your solo toons as well and not worry about different setups. Thats what I do when I want to run a solo scenario or go solo through LFR.

isBoxer can load individual slots. I cant imagine its much different for other software.

Without a backstory of any sort, it kinda just looks like a standard multiboxer who has named their main character after their Twitch stream, which one could argue does not fall into an RP naming scheme.
