Which 8 port KVM?

I'm trying to decide between the Vetra VIP-808-KM and VIP-808-KM-DE. The only difference is the DE has "Direct Entry" switches, and it's $100.00 more. Is it supposed to be able to switch faster, or is it just a "luxury package" type thing?

The direct entry has buttons for each position instead of "Cycling Through" the different ports. The non DE models you have 1 button, & have to hit & cycle through to the one you want, or use keyboard shortcuts.
So just based on that it would be faster if you use the buttons on the face of the unit.

If you use keyboard shortcuts, you'd save $100

Keeping those keys clear (& not having to memorize more) is worth $100 to me, I bought a DE model.

Thank you, that helps a lot... no worse than paying 100.00 for a x-keys stick, which I have already Make things easier too... how quickly does it switch over?

I would guesstimate it switches in about 200 - 300 ms. Not INSTANTLY but not slow either.

Don't get the direct entry feature. You can direct entry via keyboard commands (or a programmed x-keys). Unless you REALLY want to press a physical button ON THE DEVICE.
