I remember sniping 1 copper auction listing with a low levels. I ran them down there to tanaris and booty bay (died a few times), but I was able to snipe a ton of good stuff.

I was doing this well before addons were a thing. I cant imagine doing it now with all the item alert addons.

Auction houses aren't centralized in vanilla. You can only view items listed at the particular auction house you're at so you can just kill anybody standing near the auctioneer before you list your goods if you're worried.

Just be prepared to get swarmed by goblins.

I hadn't even considered playing on a PvE server. Seems like it would take half of the fun out of the vanilla experience. Though if /follow is disabled in world PvP I suppose it's not much fun for us either way.

Same-Faction auction houses, as well as trade chat, were merged in patch 1.9.

Players will now be able to buy and sell goods with greater effectiveness using the Linked Auction House system. Auction Houses in Orgrimmar, Undercity, and Thunder Bluff will now share the same pool of Horde player-created auctions, and Alliance players will find the same to be true when visiting Ironforge, Stormwind City, and Darnassus Auction Houses. This system has been expanded to support the neutral Auction Houses as well. Tanaris, Everlook, and Booty Bay will all be linked for players of both factions to access. In addition, the "Looking for Group" and "Trade" channels have been unified among the corresponding cities, meaning, for example, that you can trade your goods or look for groups in Ironforge while in Stormwind.

There are only 3 neutral AH's though and they're all pretty easy to get to with engineering. Once you're established on a server and have a few alts it doesn't take long to clear out all the bots so you can trade your stuff.

I would imagine it only being harder in classic. There are less servers, so that means it will be more populated.

I never stood by the auctioneer waiting to be slaughtered. In booty bay up on the beams and in tanaris outside of the hut there are places to stand and watch. My low levels were rogue who sat in stealth, I had two accounts and had one in booty bay and one in tanaris.

I remember alliance having an item that sold for $ on alliance, but on horde it sold for $$$$, so people would buy on alliance to resell on horde transferring using the neutral AH. They would even advertise on the warcraft server forums.

I picked a number of those items up(for the life of me I cant remember what the item was though)

There was never very much for sale on those AH's. The good stuff was easy to spot even if people varied the price, I just sorted by price. I could spot the good stuff right away. Sniping the items took seconds with out a program, I may not get them all but I would get a number of them. An addon called auctioneer or something like that came out much later I remember. There are many addons now.

I would get killed every once in a while, but remember I had two characters and I didnt pop out of stealth until I clicked on the auctioneer. I also remember vanishing and the guards attacking them which I would imagine was completely frustrating.

You could do a /who to see if high lvls were in those spots. Granted I didnt snipe everything but I got enough stuff to make it worth while when I felt like it.

I kept a max level alt at all of the neutral AH's from classic all the way through Wrath. With the right addons and macros you can just mash buttons to list, search and buy with your alt pretty much instantly. You can generally tell when there are bots scanning the AH since 90% of the time they're low level characters with weird names. Even if you do lose an item here and there it's trivial compared to the amount of gold you can make overall.

Faction specific rewards sell pretty high. In particular I remember deleting thousands of gold on my horde alt because I didn't notice for ages that it was gold capped from selling alliance argent tournament pets in Wrath.

You would need tanaris, booty bay and winterspring simultaneous clear - I do observe each though each time I do a transfer, also don't send a 20g thing for 1c, make it 3s23c bid and 5s41c buyout or some such (at least above vendor), reduces chances of sniping

I can deal defensively with follow breaking in wpvp in bfa, should be fine for vanilla too. And offensively, just need to chain stuns and slow and kill them fast.
