But isn't that the same as going into the wow settings and setting it from there? Or does it affect deeper settings that can be seen on the wow settings menu? I am just trying to find more information about this.

Yes. Things like renderscale and a few others are not accessible in the WoW settings GUI. [edit] Or they weren't last time I looked. [/edit] They're really easy to set up as mapped keys that automatically trigger when you swap characters.
