It certainly can be. I am boosting four alts with a level 70 enhancement shaman (geared in mostly karazhan/S1/badge gear). While he can tear through mobs from Ragefire Chasm all the way through Scholomance and Dire Maul (with Stratholme soon to follow), he has to do it one group at a time. It makes leveling through places like SM much slower than it could be (SM is just such an easy place for rounding up large numbers of mobs to AE), but it's still pretty fast and easy. My group is about halfway to level 53 now. Then again I work slowly anyway, I usually only play them on the weekends and I take my time when taking them through a zone. Once you get a rhythm down your hunter may work his way through zones pretty quickly.
