Hi guys,
My new Motherboard and q6600 arrived, I started to put it all together when I discovered my 4Gb memory is in fact DDR (PC3200) not DDR2.
I had forgotten that I went with DDR in the first place for the improved latency (performance between DDR and DDR2 at that time was 6 of one (better latency) and half a dozen of the other (better data throughput) and I opted for the formerI know 7 Ps and all that...(CFO gave me an unexpected green light if I could tell her how much it would cost in 15 mins.... so it was a rush job... still no excuse
)
So what I would like to know is:
I have this motherboard http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...=GA-EP35C-DS3R
it supports DDR2 and DDR3"Basically I blew my budget on the CPU and MB so I am going to have to scrimp a little on the memory (yes I know, shocking state of affairs but better than not being able to benefit from the upgrade at allDDR3:DDR2:
- 2 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 4 GB of system memory
- Dual channel memory architecture
- Support for DDR3 1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules
- 4 x 1.8V DDR2 DIMM sockets supporting up to 8 GB of system memory(Note 1)
- Dual channel memory architecture
- Support for DDR2 1200 (O.C.)/1066/800/667 MHz memory modules
)
DDR3 is out of my price range - I am in enough crap from my gf as it is
Considering I was previously only able to use 2.8Gb of my memory, should I go for 2Gb 1066Mhz or 4Gb 800Mhz? (this motherboard supports up to 8Gb so will get to use all of it this time) or even 4Gb 667Mhz (overclockable apparently)?
Thanks for any input... Flames welcome for my idiocy
