    Default [Classic] Professions comp

I really enjoy professions, in classic that I recall nodes are tapped so only 1 of each gathering prof is useful

there are 9 professions total, if I have a 5 toon team, that leaves an extra slot, is there any profession that benefit from having 2 ? (initially I thought about alchemy specs, but that's a BC thing... though come to think of it, having too may help for xmute CDs ?)

Another choice would be to have another dis(enchanter) in case I change group composition as having a disenchanter in group is always useful, specially when farming

    Thoughts ?

Are you going to be doing PvP? Theres a bop trinket (Glimmering Mithril Insignia) that gives a 30 seconds fear immunity only available from a blacksmithing quest chain. Engineers had a few BoP PvP and PvE items as well. If you have a druid tank you'll want to be enchanting for the trinket.

I have no idea though if back in classic you had to keep the profession to use the item. You may have to level a couple professions to max on each toon for the trinkets you need than swap to engineering for the gadgets.

Here is what I was thinking:

    Toon1 - Alchemy & Herbalism
    Toon2 - Enchanting & Tailoring
    Toon3 - Leatherworking & Skinning
    Toon4 - Blacksmithing & Mining
Toon5 - TBD & TBD (possible Alchemy for Xmutes)

I like this, I guess 5 would be Engineering & Alchemy
If I recall engineering gives you only cloth helms in vanilla (or not?) so a clothie

John - I don't remember either but I would think yes you need the profession to use

It does require 225 bs https://classicdb.ch/?item=10418
I had forgotten about it, but seems BS has specializations Armorsmith, ... so maybe 2 BS

I have some negative thoughts on the value of gathering professions. You may have them for reasons other than value (completionist, etc, although you're missing engineering)

Gathering brought no special bonuses in classic. For sheer character power, other professions are better. They're only worth taking if you're a completionist and want the possibility, even if it's never used.

I would suggest gathering from the AH. The best gold/hr for a multiboxer is very unikely to be gathering as there are no intrinsic advantages. Given that, it's probably better to earn gold in other fashions and buy mats instead of gathering first hand. The gold/hr value of self farming will be less than other methods, which translates to fewer herbs/hr of farming. Plus, it frees up more slots for more useful professions. Your whole team can be doing Alchemy transmutes for instance if you drop skin/mine/herb.

Then again, maybe you hate buying on the AH and love gathering. Fun (enough to be able to do it) is important, and in that case, I'd maybe level more characters with both gathering professions so they could park in zones.

Note: I think Skinning has some value with rare mats from instance skinning. Mining also has some value from smelting as a transmute of sorts, allowing you to pick the cheaper of ores and bars.

Fair points. I was more thinking about end game crafting and ability to not rely on the AH.
dropping herb you loose the ability to snag black lotus? purple lotus? I can't remember. The one BOP herb you needed for end game flasks.

I think it also offers the ability to change some stuff up. It can get boring farming instances for gold/ drops. Maybe I want to stretch my legs and wonder around Un'goro crater, hitting some nodes, and skinning some devilsaurs to craft some of their sets and sell them on the AH.

I also can't remember if specialization of alchemy was in classic or bc? Being xmute spec and getting some procs was always nice.

I think there are many reasons to still have the 3 gatherer on team:
    - rare nodes (lotus)
    - ability to control the node (either pvp or mobs)
    - in instance
and also, if you need a specific thing to finish a recipe and there is just not any at the AH, it's nice to be able to get it (specially if you have a mage on team to send you close)

One idea might be to consider making as much profit as possible with items that we can farm as boxers while these items are still profitable. You can respec for optimal usage later on once prices calm down.

For example, 5 alchemists to transmute arcanite with a miner/blacksmith. Farm the plans for Arcanite Reaper and then sell them on AH for several hundred gold.

Can't argue with fun, like dieting, what matters most for successful value farming is interest. If you can't find a farm worth more than gathering that you can stomach, then gathering is definitely a great choice. Black Lotus went BoE in the ZG patch, same as 16 slot debuffs, which is confirmed as in. http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/Patch_1.7.0 However, ZG is phase 2 of raiding. I'd be tempted to bet that gameplay changes (like 16 slot debuffs, BoE BL, etc) from 1.12 will all be in at release, just the raid content will be staged. However, that's an unconfirmed bet, unless someone has a source, either could be the case at release
