Default [Request] please allow bigger signatures

my signature is only 350x111, but i think it's larger than 20kb

please see if it isn't possible to allow pictures larger than that size so i can use my new signature

Not to get up on my high horse, but I prefer small signatures... it really annoys the heck out of me when people's signature length is multiple times longer than what they post. It's a *signature* after all -- and a signature is suppose to be just a simple marking that identifies you. It is attached to every single post, so it really should be something small and unobtrusive, something that people can see over and over without detracting from the discussions at hand.
This forum isn't *too* bad, although the forum software itself could definitely be more streamlined. But in other places I see people with huge images (or worse animations), or quoting entire passages out of books, or posting the virtual equivalent of a curriculum vitae... I visit forums to discuss relevant topics, participate in a community and communicate with my fellow members - not to see for example the dialog of a Pulp Fiction scene after someone's every post. Unless it's a Pulp Fiction forum, I guess.

The picture you linked is cool btw, but it says it is 350x111 pixels not 450x150? And around 50K -- you might try re-encoding it with some different JPEG compression options to get it down to a smaller size, or maybe Imageshack re-scaled/re-compressed it and bloated the file size somehow.

I agree. Some of the sigs are overkill. However there is a way to fix that from your end.

My Profile -> Settings -> Display Settings -> Unlick these two options.

    Show other members' signatures

    Show other members' avatars

End Result = Better Forum viewing for you.

I agree with the "small sig" thing. Preferably, the dimensions would be restricted. The piece for me that's missing is the "link to off-site avatar/signature image" option. :P

I do agree with you where some people just go freaking overboard and have their entire sig collection in their signature... but all i am wondering is if is possible just make the image size larger like instead of only 20k make it 30k or 40k so you can put in a good-quality image as some pics lose quality when saved in a format that will reduce size

on my other forum they have this thing where you can only post 1 pic in your signature so people won't go overboard

    Ellay?

I would assume it has something to do with defaults or with how much storage space is available.

I think if you cut the sig in half right about his left arm you still get the look your going for with smaller size in kb and just size it self. You could also go with gif or jpg over png. The sig itself doesnt have ton colors so no need go high end png format. Just giving option.

yeah, i tried saving it as a jpg and a gif, but i can only get it down to about 30k which is still 10 over the maximum

Can't you just decrease the quality to lower the file size? I mean, that should work. Don't need Hi-res stuff on here. Smaller sized sigs (file size) lead to better overall site performance.

I'm impressed that you were able to make this JPEG over 20Kb, what app were you using?
