Long time lurker here. Just wanted to say hey and thanks for providing such and excellent resource......
Just wanted to give a perspective on where my interests started in multi-boxing. Does anyone remember or did you play Bard''s tale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bard's_Tale_(1985)) or Baldur's Gate (http://www.bioware.com/games/baldurs_gate/). Fantastic games that I played and loved. So when I started playing EQ (way back when, 1999?) it was only natural, after computers started to become cheaper, to form and play my own groups. After EQ I boxed just about every MMORPG (I know, RPG is a misnomer these days...*sigh*. See below) and have throughly enjoyed multi-boxing WoW (and other games). Another fundamental aspect of multi-boxing that I think has received very little attention, and one that is fostered in games such as Baldur's Gate, is the potential for RP. I know.....RP is for dorks and all the WoW kids think it is not cool, too bad in my opinion since this aspect of modern day online games can provide hours of enjoyment. I guess the endless pursuit of gear and electronic wealth is too much for most people to ignore. My old EQ guild on Firiona Vie was primarily made of boxers, and we had a great time playing in dungeons and raiding some of the lower planes zones. But what I remember most was the multi-box characters that we created and how we tried to fit all of them into a RP scenario that made since. It added another dimension to the game and other non-boxers appreciated our RP events and all the different personalities/stories that came along with our characters. Not that EQ needed another dimension since it would take months to level a character and the game was masochistic in design....
