What are folks using for macros these days please ? Just writing your own or using something like Gnome Sequencer/Lazy Macros ?

With the global cooldown changes most of my macros are just single spells now, I may add something like "/stopmacro [channeling]" or "/stopmacro [nocombat]" type thing to them but mostly everything I do is just one spell per button.

I may be set in my ways but I don't use GSE, I spam my DPS key and prefer a "button mash" priority method for my DPS. Could never get GSE to work with my playstyle.

I use GnomeSequencer for everything and for a very simple reason. It takes the editor out of WoW and into Notepad++ which is FAR better to look at.

Besides that I shoot for as many passives as I can afford without gimping damage too considerably.

My usual CC / interrupt focus macro:

    #showtooltip
    /cast [@focus, harm, exists][] CCSpellNameHere
My usual CC /interrupt target macro

    /cast CCSpellNameHere
    My usual DPS GS macro:

    /castsequence reset=combat/2 generator, generator, spender,
    /cast cooldown1,
    /cast cooldown2
Obviously they can be more nuanced than that but that's the general idea. I find with GS the more nuanced they get the worse they are.

Especially when the only thread that's been updated in recent memory for a particular spec's GSE macro says "* requires this particular ring, this particular cloak, these enchants, 4-piece tier 97 raid set bonus, 2-piece special-rare-world-boss-set-piece bonus, these three food/potion/flask buffs, and a minimum of X stat." It's almost surprising that someone hasn't come up with a tool that would configure GSE macros based on your gear, stats, talents, etc. so playing wow was basically, 1) download GSE and macro base, 2) download GSE macro planner, 3) select gear and export custom LUA to GSE, 4) Press X until all the things are dead.
    Now playing: WoW (Garona)

That might not be a bad idea. At least a GSE that accounts for talents. It can be done of course right inside of GSE but few have done it so far that I know.

My own I do lines that are conditional on talents chosen but we're talking really complicated macros that go on for a few lines. Including gear on top of that would probably require a plugin to GSE or a new addon entirely.

As noted however these enormously complicated macros are difficult to understand for most people and they don't work nearly as well in practice. Abilities aren't used when they're supposed to be used and it suddenly becomes very inefficient. That's why if you go to LazyMacro you find people making GSEs with tons of modifiers. It's no longer 1 button DPS at that point but it works.

you can do the same type of conditionals for equipped gear as you can for talents

    Code:
equipped:<item type> or worn:<item type> — item type is equipped (item type can be an inventory slot, item type, or item subtype).
    https://wow.gamepedia.com/Macro_conditionals

a handful of my gse macros have talent conditionals in them from legion.
I've not yet bolted down my BFA ones enough to start worrying about it.

tbh, multiboxing there isn't that many times I change spec

Im using Gnome Sequencer and some (simple) macros of my own.
The GSE macros i use, are still from Legion but adjusted to BfA.
No modifiers and not dependent on gear.

I used to use GSE when I would try out new classes/specs that I didn't have a lot of knowledge about. Now I use them as a template to create my own. I get an idea of priorities after looking at the 3 or so most popular ones. After you import, right click it or go to Edit and get to digging about what it does and when. You'll be creating your own that you'll enjoy more before you know it.

I'm lazy and use GSE on my 5x Blood DKs.

Currently using this one (scroll down a little to see his updated version)

I do have interrupt rotations lazily setup and such for situational issues. I need to set these up properly still and quit being lazy

EDIT: I've now set up my interrupt, taunt and stun round robin in ISBoxer and let me tell you it makes all the difference. Don't be a lazy loser like me and put it off. Spend a little time and get it done!
