mixed group is simply the most difficult combo, period. there are really solid reasons why 5-mans are mostly comprised of carbon copy class/spec. and also why most comps are sporting the same class or two.

cooldowns and conditionals and movement requirements have all cast a disparaging shadow over the multibox masses it seems. and i don't find nearly as many folks even boxing compared to years past.

and so i have come to some conclusion that my original wishes to box pure trinity are beyond my skill capped reach. even if it is of the desires of most to see if someone can pull it off successfully using new or inventive techniques.

i think i'll likely do well with heirlooms until i reach Legion content, at which point i am likely to hit the wall when gear no longer overpowers mechanics which much eventually be adhered do.
I don't get where you're getting this sentiment really. Originally you were asking about viability of mixed teams in Legion. You were provided with the information that not only are the viable, but infact they are the top ones in terms of progression in 5-man content. It's quite a jump to go from this to "it's too hard to even try".

Yes, some boxers have quit or are on break, but there's nothing in this thread, or anywhere else that leads me to believe it has had anything to do with the level of difficulty, especially compared to a non-mixed group attempting to run the same content. People just get bored / burned out on WoW. It happens each and every expansion. And yes, people often run teams consisting of just 1 DPS spec, since it's simpler to handle and CD alignment is less of an issue. But again to go from that straight in to stating it's way to difficult is completely unfounded in my opinion.

I'm not trying to jump on you with my reply, as Wubsie just beat me to a few points, but I'm posting it anyway since I took the time to write it.

I found this statement to be very odd, since I would argue that there are more visible multiboxers than the past two (maybe even three) expansions combined. There have been so many multiboxers, during Legion, who have put up video after video of them progressing through, not only Mythics, but also raids—this includes streaming, as well.

In the past, multiboxing raiding was something only the most dedicated dare attempt, and even then, they were generally unsuccessful. However, in Legion, you've got multiboxers teaming up with each other to down both normal and heroic content of just one tier prior to current, and that's quite a change from any past expansion.

Now, I specifically use the word "visible" because these are people who record and upload their runs, stream things live, or both. Just a quick glance at the movies sub-forum will show that there are four solid pages of Legion normal, heroic, and mythic dungeon runs, as well as a few raids, and some of the threads have several videos within them. I'd say that that's pretty f'ing impressive, since after page five you hit WoD-era videos and, well... it should be apparent just how popular that expansion was.

At this point, we're just shy of one year into this expansion, and we have more documented content than the past several expansions combined, and that doesn't even account for any of the people who multibox, but neither upload footage nor stream their gameplay—who have always been the majority—or those who are simply sharing themselves leveling through low-level dungeons.

The reasons you outline have been the same since the inception of multiboxing, but, for the most part, and as you point out, it comes down to one word: micromanagement. The quickest and easiest way to cut out micromanagement is to play same-class/spec compositions—there's just no other answer to this. People tend to like quick and easy, and therefore they gravitate toward those team compositions.

so a little about me, i started boxing in wotlk when LFG came out and you no-longer needed to ask you guilds/friends to do runs before LFR i was in one of the top raiding guild as a tank, i used to get nonstop /w from guild members others thats done runs me with from before to do a dungon run it was always fast and easy and my alt mage i could always get in a run because. There was no cross realm it was all server friends.

Then LFG came out blizzard pushed better stuff more tokens if you used to Tool to do LFG no going to portal and it was just all around easyer to do this way. i Had a lot let /w a day and even then if i did do a run with friends/guild they would not take my mage so to play her i had to wait in the que for 20mins, i did used to have 2 accounts i guess i alt tabbed box.

i started Boxing no long after and i did a TRINITY team 3 dps healer and a tank, all mixed. In wotlk how big the patchs where and as many as they where you could push old raids as a 5 man group. if you had the gear. i even did a few bossess in icc with a 2nd boxer and the single Top tair raid boss in VoA(the WG raid thing (( back then this was your world boss i guess)) ) both them raids was hard and took weeks of wipeing nonstop

i did box 3 chars in my current raiding guild but they went all EMO and blamed me for the wipes ofc, so they took pugs and wiped even more.....

The cata came. NOW this was hard even when i out geared cala dungeons they was nrever going to be done. far to much of everything to much cc needed it was just evil nasty work. So at this point i went pvp. Arana and BGs and wpvp

Mop was a okish xpac again raids was a nightmare to try and do or though i carryed on with a pvp team and my pve team ended up just doing not a lot.
at the end of xpac i manged to most the dungeons again. i super outgeared and even then there was that one easy dungeon you could run all the time.

WoD i did not really do much PvE i guess i tried but again it was a random again and everything seemed harder raiding even doing the old LFR was a bit of pain.

In legion i took the path to 10 box! with tokens and how easy it is to make gold now its kinda easy to sub to more and no cap on tokens makes it very easy to keep my accounts on my BattNet that i wonted to do. (then having 10 single ones)

As pvp is kinda no fun there no "real" gear from pvp no arana gear for token points, i did not see the point in trying any of this. wpvp is just borken.

or though i think i only got to a M+4 i guess i could push more if i wonted i love this xpac for the size i play. Ok class halls suck but even so with WoD and there single stuff they had i skiped all of it! only did what i had to to level. and i have done most my class hall stuff!

i do have a few teams and i have to say i "quit" more then i have in any other xpac! but i found mosty this was due to my setup/realm. i was on a ally realm with very few horde and would just get aoed all day at a fightpoint. nothing i could do to kill this dude and if i did others would flood to help! this went on for months and i hated my wow life!

so when i came back for the 100th time i made a choice to go to a pve realm that many of my other friendly boxers on eu did! i made a new group that was warlocks and i always loved them but with a lot of vidoes seeing them work so well i had to do some more!

    6 warlocks
    2 disc priests
    2 resto shammys.

i added 2 healers and had a 8 man team, i started doing some lower tier raids EN and really liked this with 8 i added to more better healers shammy's later to my team and i done 4 bosses in EN! or though my ilvl is around 886-900 my luck with legi and gear drops with right starts means my dps sucks a lot.
the fights are not like wotlk where there so easy there dumb but there not hard like other xpacs and i can push bossess there a few are not working with my current setup am not running a real tanks!

this week i was thinking if i could do Nighthold one tier from the current raid tier i did the 1st 2 bossess there without any real problems! and it was super fun and got a few upgrades on the way!!

So really there is always something to do boxing you make the game as you want. i guess if i was still 5 man boxing i would push 5 mans more there more then doable some fights/bosses might take a bit of time to do.

My goal was to solo bosses in a raid and am doing that! 10 box and pay for the subs with gold that am doing!

ya am a bit board atm, with the current stuff todo, but 7.3 is coming out real soon and that is got 3 new sub zones! i can not tell you the last time a patch has been so big, this could easier of been a smaller xpac like they said they wonted to do every year! World quests don't feel that bad and its better then killing going to the same zone doing the same quests for a year.

You need to look out of a box find way around fights! and before you know you will have killed that boss that you wiped on for weeks!

What realm are you on Ebony?

Edit.. I wanted to add something myself.

I have boxed for the best part of 10 years now, but I am far from one of the best. I can multibox mixed teams, but get annoyed at having 5 characters.
For me 3 is the magic number - I can group with others, I can box the invasions. They are 3 Hunters, I dropped my locks and am having so much more fun with just the one team, and I can hopefully push them further.

I am no fan of solo play, once boxing is in the blood it's hard to let go of. I can also make money as all 3 have herbing and enchanting, and I have an alt with rank 3 flask making capability.. so all herbs get sent to her and I sell flasks.
I keep enchanting for de on the 2 and only the main actually makes stuff. I think it's a nice small scale setup, that affords me a lot more time to do other things.. wow was taking up way too much of my time at one point, and it was causing me issues at home... I am 40 this year and don't have the patience, nor do I thrive on high stress like I used to

Anyhow you don't have to be doing what the best can do to have fun - best of luck
