well thanks... grats on your first post and how do you see if a MOBO supports 4 non-sli video cards or whatever its called...
Well it would be listed in the spec section, or you may need to find a MOBO then do a google search on it. Can I ask what exactly are you trying to run? reason being, I can give you a method to run what you are looking for as well as possibly setting a 2 PC set up with approx the same space and power usage as 1 big bad box.

On a side not, My Asus allows me 3 PCI-E non SLI cards which will net me 6 DVI ports. These are alot more common than 4 slot. If you get one with an additional onboard slot you would be at 7 ports *Alothough the onboard vid may be kinda weak.

This website may be a good place for you to start. They kick ASS in the Graphic design / Rendering department and you could probably custom build something through them. The cost alot but if they may be a good start also. http://www.boxxtech.com/

10 boxing on one computer, I don't think is really doable, but you can try.

    You want:

    1 skull trail motherboard
2 9770 intel quad core extreme processors
    at least 8-16gb of ram
    vista premium
    2 * 9800gx graphics cards

4 monitors. (thats the most you can drive.

    That should be good imo

I have never seen a motherboard with more than 3 PCIE x16 slots, so the most monitors you can run is 6 (for 3d gaming that is). However, can easily have 2 clients on each monitor. Just use widescreen monitors in portrait mode. Also, as Suvega has alluded to, you will need a 64-bit version of Vista if you are going to use more than 3GB of RAM (which is mandatory if you are going to run that many clients).

So I assume you're planning on doing PvP with 10? Can't really do any PvE with more than 5 IMHO.

I thought XP 64 also supports more than3 gig of ram naturally. Also if you want to use horizontal span you will be stuck with XP over Vista *Dunno if that make a big performance difference anymore like it used to over dual view*

Sounds like a fun challenge to build one PC that can 10 box. Skulltrail is the first thing that popped into my mind as well but its not very future proof (8GB max mem support, pci-e 1.1 instead of 2.0 and DDR2 instead of DDR3). That being said I guess it's still your only option so you have those 8 cores to work with.

You guys dont think you can drive 8 monitors off of 2 8800 Ultras using DVI splitter cables? Run each at a lower res to reduce the strain ( mabey 1024x768 ).

    This plan is doomed ...

Just run more electrical cables through the wall from the box that goes to the power company, if thats really the problem.

By the time you get this working you will be able to pass that microsoft certification test lol ...

If you want 8 monitors, get 8 computers thats all I have to say.

is it really undoable to 10box on one computer ... what about 5 boxing ... that shouldnt be that much of a problem... is 2 CPUs really needed? ive seen people 10-box(on two laptops) with some crappy intel dual 2 core 2 - 2.00 ghz CPUs
