My Q6600 and Asus P5N-D are coming today, I'll be sure to post how it works out.
I'm running a Gigabyte GA-X38-DS4 board + Q6600 overclocked to 3.0GHz here. Serious potential and very tweakable. But if you get it, you MUST buy memory that has manufacturer datasheets available (like crucial, corsair, Kingston, etc.) so you know what to set the voltages and timings to, or you'll have a hell of a time getting it working properly. Once you do, though, wow does it perform. And the dual BIOS backup is awesome just in case something freaky happens.

Got mine up and running with only one unexpected issue. My second monitor for some reason decided not to work after I reinstalled Vista, which I had to do since I run a RAID setup which is managed by the motherboard. It was quite a baffling problem since I had it running before and all I changed was the CPU, MB and RAM. Turned out that it is an issue with the monitor itself; unplugging it completely for a minute and plugging it back in fixed it. Just a coincidence that it happened tonight I guess. All the new stuff worked on the first try.
I'm quite happy to be able to walk around Shattrath at 30 FPS now.I haven't even tried over clocking yet, but I think I might. The Q6600 runs about 10-15 degrees C cooler than my old P4 Prescott 3.0 Ghz, so it should be able to take it.
Get a nVidia 7 series mobo. The 6's can't use the latest and greatest 45nm Yorkfield (quad core) CPUs, which sound like they kick major ass and will someday soon be more reasonably priced.

Complete noob question here...I'm looking into buying a quad-core processor but I need to know how do I know which motherboards support quad-cores? I'm looking in newegg.com but I can't for the life of me figure out which boards support them...![]()
Look at the specs listing on newegg. It will tell you if it supports quad core.

I was looking for something that mentioned anything about quad core support in the specs but I didn't see a single thing. Maybe I'm just not looking in the correct spot. I'll try checking again.Originally Posted by 'Chorizotarian',index.php?page=Thread&postID=50557 #post50557
