I have been levelling x5 Prot Pallas and have been facerolling dungeons with zero issues - however after this mornings downtime I log in and queue for dungeons and my poor pallys seem to be taking a shit ton of damage dying left right and centre! Am I going crazy.. is it my imagination?!!

its normal, blizz dont care about burst damage in lower dungeons. Imagine how hard it is if dont have any heirloom gear
next thing is the scaling system. 2-3 lvl diffence between your toons and mobs packs are nearly enough to oneshot you or you them

I began boxing in the bc expac years ago so I know how hard it used to be

I presume you've tried re-equipping all your gear? Did your stats change? I seem to recall occasions where items were changed that caused stats to screw up unless you got nekkid and then put everything back on.
