You can join the fight on day 1 in a frigate. All the talk about taking years to be a valuable pilot or to learn the game is pure nonsense. More SP only = more options. Even a noob can fight and have fun. The most used ships in the game are frigates, destroyers, and cruisers which are the 3 smallest and easiest classes of ship to train into.
I suggest new players who want to get in on the fight join either:
Karmafleet - Imperium (defenders)
Pandemic Horde - MBC (attackers)
Test Alliance Please Ignore - MBC (attackers)
all these groups are noob friendly. They'll teach you the game and probably pass you free ships to go shoot at stuff and get blown up.
