Can any of you tech-gurus tell me a reason NOT to buy one of the sweet refurb monitors I also regularly see on sale for amazing deals? Obviously the warranty is prolly crap etc, but what exactly does refurb even mean? Does anyone own one and is satisfied? Anyone bought one and got burned?

I can't speak to the deal above, but I bought 3 dell 2407 24 inch monitors refurbished & they work flawlessly almost years later. I paid a little over 1/2 price of retail at the time.

Im a fan of buying refurbed gear from a well known manufacturer.

The panels in your dell 2407 are much better than the monitor above. What I failed to understand until I discovered the hard way is, different panel types make or break a monitor. A cheap TN panel sucks. My mistake was I purchased two TN panels to go with a high quality panel. Setting them next to my dell 2407 it was night and day. It was so terrible I sent them back. Thats when I researched LCD's and found out what type of panels are being put into them. I suggest anyone who is in the market for an LCD to do some research on panels so they know what the flaws will be. When you see two LCD's the same size and one is $100 more there is a reason. You may never understand why until you put one side by side. If I had never purchased my dell 2407 I would think TN panels were how all LCD's work. In that case the saying ignorance is bliss applies. However, once you see a high quality display you will never settle for less.
