Well, I think this is well and truly the final nail in the coffin for me. I've flirted off and on as a subscriber for the past two years, but I think I'm too tired to dance any more.

I really enjoy open world pvp, and being able to fly in Tanaan Jungle finishes off this expansion for me. I guess they may do a better job with the max-level content in the next expansion with respect to open world pvp, but I think I'm done with WoD.

I can see your point of view, If WoW was mostly about PvP for me I 'm not sure I would like it either. But this is wonderful news to me. Its mostly about PvE with me in these games(MMOs).. and flying makes it a lot more fun IMO. BUT I 100% agree that the content should be fully consumed before you can fly over it, im ok with that the first time though.

am all up for flying as most zones in wod are dead anyway, but having flying in Tanaan Jungle is silly, but then again the zone is not all that good anyway and been over buffed to look like timeless island and its far from that zone.

Although having to get all those achievements before being allowed to fly is a bummer, I'm happy with the compromise.

I have to say I like the compromise too. I love to fly but I can certainly see both sides of the argument. Having certain areas be disabled for flight would also make sense rather than all or nothing. It just makes me wonder how many subs they must have been hemorrhaging after the original announcement of "no flying now or in the future" in order to do a 180 degree change in philosophy. I can only imagine some of the internal meetings they must have had on this topic

I think the polls were about 50/50. And it seemed like most people who were against flying, had PvP reasons for it. But the people who wanted it were the most "passionate about it" I would guess. I know one of the reasons i stopped playing in MoP was that last two updates having no fly zones. And when they said no flying in the future this time, I have not logged in since. Now i will have to fire up my team to get all the prerequisite achievements done.

But timeless island would of been the biggest fail if it had flying it would have no point at all.

i feel some zones need flying and others do not, timeless was made without flying at all and it worked great and that's what made it (or though a lot did not like it) i think flying should be out the game for a patch at least and when it does get added make players work for it. but no flying at all get boring in such a big world anyway.

imho flying should be available for
    - all the "old content" (classic, bc, wotlk, ...)
    - current content areas as soon as you get to max level and get the loremaster achiev
so you completed the quests in the way they designed it
    - current daily areas and quest hubs as soon as they get outdated / replaced by
a new questhub or when they were designed for flying

this way would you'd explore the world and complete the quests the way the designers what you to do it and be able to farm herbs/ore/wood/... or travel the world faster in the areas after the PVE content is completed in there. Open World PvP can be done in the current quest hubs where flying is still forbidden. Only problem left are the lvl 100 player that fly through old content and farm low level ppl (what they call PvP), I think that's why they started giving out Tome of Cold Weather flying to prevent such behaviour.

Well... This is rather dissapointing. Now to be on equal ground with others as far as major game mechanics, I'm forced to finish off running to every damn corner in WoD whether or not I already know what's there and have chosen not to go there as there is nothing of value in that area, start doing boring as hell daily quests that I stopped doing for the precise reason that they sucked ever so much, finish off boring, pointless quest lines in irrelevant, outleveled areas, rep grinding(?!) and maybe even do some treasure hunting (not sure how many I've collected).

I fail to see how any of these are in any way relevant to whether or not you should be able to have the flying talent on a max level character. Sure, now you get to (read: are forced to) experience all of the areas to the end. However, I submit that if one would find enjoyment in finishing those areas off, we would have done it on our own by now. So this does not give you a shortcut to any part of that content. What if you hate that part of the game and that is precisely why you've chosen not to do any of that content outside of what you absolutely have to? From a PVPers perspective, this is like requiring all the PVErs to grind to a certain arena rating before they can get the flying talent. It makes no sense.

And this is to be the way of things for every content patch from this point? I'm hoping the PVP community will have their voice heard as I'm sure I'm not the only one seeing this as absurd, and this will change. If not, I don't see myself continuing with this game.
