Was going to post this in the GPU thread but it expanded past that at the end so went with a new thread

Not absolutely boxing related, though I have come back to D3 currently.

Coming up to tax time and considering replacing my CF 7970's with either SLI 980's or a Titan X since they are around the same price (Titan ~$200 more depending on brands of both cards) for triple monitor but am not sure which way to go. Most gaming is iRacing, Elite, ETS2, FSX and X-Flight when I'm looking at eyefinity/nvsurround use and currently running 3 x 1080p but am also considering going to 3 x 4k.

My current CPU is a 4790k which I'm also thinking about moving to X99 and 5930k depending on refund and excess cash in July after US trip.

I like the idea of going with at least one 4k for center screen of eyefinity since it means running 4 D3 clients in native 1080 on the one screen and then left and right 1080p for other stuff but then it loses the 4k goodness in tri-mode. Reasons against 3 x 4k is obviously then need to go with SLI Titan's to push reasonable framerates in surround mode so I'm conflicted to the following options:

1. 3 x 4k monitors + Titan
2. 3 x 4k monitors + SLI-980
3. 1 x 4k Monitor + Titan
4. 1 x 4k monitor + SLI-980
5. 2011-3 CPU + mobo + Titan
6. 2011-3 CPU + mobo + SLI-980
7. 2011-3 CPU + mobo + SLI Titan + 3 x 4K monitor

Option 7 is currently in my shopping cart (alogn with 64Gb RAM and cooler) since I can semi justify it as a work related expense but it's at the very edge of my budget and I'd rather not push to the limit if I can since if SLI-Titan can't push 12k res at at least 30fps in flight and 60fps in iRacing it will mean I have to look at GPU upgrades again in ~12 months. That said I am kind of leaning towards option 5 + one 4k monitor to see how I like things and then grabbing two more of the monitors at xmas time if I feel the need for three of them.

In terms of work-related I do programming and DBA for a living so being able to run multiple VM's at once and RAMDisks becomes quite useful....outside of that I also wouldn't mind getting more involved in videography, streaming and youtube so headroom for Adobe is also good.
