there are free alternatives, that have varying levels of capabilities and zero support. they are specified in the stickies.

if a one-time $20 hit is too much, multi-boxing might not be for you. wow accounts are $15/month... running 5 would be $75/mon or $900/yr.

btw, $20 is about the price of a single keyboard... imagine if you had to do it the 'old fashioned' way... all hardware

hi friend,, even though Keyclone is wonderful and powerful tool,and with all due respect to its creator...,,, Lately, I don't like the way its been pushed onto the forum as the only solution,... I've used AHk script for the past 6 months now . and frankly its just as good if u are willing to spend a few hours on the forum reading the AHK script stickies. and actually working it out yourself.. I know somepeople might not have the inclination, but others do, and its only fair to outline all the options,,

There are quite a few diffrent ways to do it now, theres no point listing them all. Keyclone is the easiest way of setting up a Multiboxing enviroment, period. Which is why we as a community endorse it.

Everyone's very clear about keyclone and the availability of other software solutions. I don't use it personally, but I can see why one might feel pressured into using it -- it's very popular for a reason so most people who software multibox have experience with, and only with, keyclone.

Furthermore, someone who asks a not-so-detailed question on multiboxing without looking at the stickies in the forum that detail the exact information he's looking for will generally be the sort who is incapable of setting up the free multiboxing software on their own due to its complexity.

So that's why you see most of the "Where can I download the free version" posts followed up shortly with "If you can't read the stickies, you won't be able to set up the free versions. You need to buy Keyclone"

I personally suggest to all my friends who are interested in multi-boxing, to try octopus, it's free, but like keyclone said, it's got 0 support and it's rather weird to get working. But it does work, just doesn't have all the features and support keyclone has.

So simply put, I would suggest trying octopus until you are sure mutli-boxing is what you want to do. If you seriously want to multi-box though, I don't see how you could not buy keyclone.

I think everyone has made some very good points in this discussion..

the things that you need to think about.
1. do i want to spend/devote time just on setting up?
2. do i have the technical knowledge to teach myself how to set up the program?
3. can i afford/willing to pay for it?

I personally went for keyclone as the easiest way to multibox (IMHO) and have been quite happy with it.. but you need to decide what fits best for you.

I'd personally go with keyclone - in a heartbeat - it's a steal for $20. It'll save you a LOT of time and frustration and let you focus on the important stuff - getting your guys leveled and macro's setup etc.. If you can't afford $20 then you'll have a much bigger problem with the overall cost of multi-boxing.

I really love my setup and keyclone is the most important - yet least expensive part. The other program I use is called Multiplicty (I think that's the name)- which lets you share your keyboard and mouse on different computers. A lot better than synergy (which is dead in development).

I used plenty free software at first, I changed to keyclone solely because of the maximizer program. Now that I use keyclone, I wished I changed sooner, because the difference between keyclone and other software is quite simple.

Keyclone is built for one purpose. To multibox WoW. Pretty much all free software that clones keystrokes (the ones I know off) are made to multibox generic applications. In that way, and added the support the programs get, keyclone will always deliver the best available for the purpose we are all here.
