Blizz says I cannot "advertise" dual-boxing.com?

After an "argument" with someone earlier about how I am not "cheating", I got to thinking...

Am I actually allowed to respond to someone with a link to Dual-boxing.com/V-boxing.net/faq for information on multiboxing? This conversation as an example:



I know I was a bit harsh at times, but that guy had been bugging me for nearly 10 minutes. I just got to wondering if Blizz could ban me for "advertising" dual-boxing.com

If someone asks me what I'm doing, accuse me of cheating, or being a bot, I can direct them here without any trouble?

Yes you can. It would be much the same as you linking Wowhead or Thottbot if someone wanted to know how to do a quest. You're not soliciting illegal behaviors or products so you're fine.

You can also report people who harass you, like you mentioned above. Multiboxing may not be against the rules, nor playing multiple accounts at the same time -- however verbal harassment is very much against the rules.

No problem. I enjoy ending conversations with something along the lines of:

[Vyndree] Multiboxing isn't against the rules, but verbal harassment is. This is my final warning - please do not contact me again unless you have something constructive to say. Any further harassment and I will be forced to ticket a GM. Have a nice day.


If they continue, mark down the name of the harasser, the method (whisper/say/general chat/trade chat), and the server time that you sent your final warning message and include them in your ticket to the GM. Showing the GM that you did in fact warn the person to stop harassing you and they continued, and giving the GMs all the information they need, will greatly speed up the process. I've never had a repeat offender using this method.

I may have to macro that! LOL -- It's only happened like that once, but I have a feeling it will happen again. It's so strange, though. I NEVER got this type of attention multiboxing blood elves, or dranei. I guess my gnome girls just stick out Especially since they all look exactly alike, and everyone usually notices the names right away.

Oh well. I like playing this way, that's all that matters!

I had sent a ticket in to CS about this, just to get their take on it. I did not speak to a GM as I wasn't online when they replied, but this is what they wrote:

Answer: It could be considered a violation of policy to advertise that website so I would not advise it. However, you could refer them to the world of warcraft policies page http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/policy/.

Soo, now I'm confused. This is what I was afraid of, advertising a website and getting banned because of it. However, you multiboxers who have been playing for a long time have always referred them to these websites and have not been banned yet, but I still don't like the GMs response. How else am I supposed to inform someone that I am not "cheating" or a "bot" if I cannot tell them about these websites?

A repeat -- I am a multiboxer, and occasionally I get called a "cheater" or a "bot" -- I want to inform these people, as I am not either of them. I asked if I could inform them by having them go to dual-boxing.com and the answer was "it could be considered a violation of policy to advertise that website, refer them to the world of warcraft policies page." How is that website against policy when dual-boxing is legal?

I would have written more and explained it better, but they limit how much you write in that box.

Be on the safe side, I would just say google dual boxing... I know for a fact this site is the first site on the list...

or when you answer them do it via /tells and say something along the lines of to answer your question www.dual-boxing.com can help. I usually go this route as I am responding to them in a chat like manner.

Now what do I do? I can't link them to dual-boxing.com, nor can I tell them to google dual boxing. So, when someone asks what I am doing I am supposed to ignore it? Argh.

There's a difference between advertising and answering someone's question.

If you were to run around a major city spamming the URL without provocation, then sure. I can see how that's advertising.

If you are responding to a whisper in a conversational manner, I see nothing wrong with recommending an online resource for clarification.

If you are super concerned, why not link them a post directly on the official World of Warcraft forum? Like Belfaire's post with the URL of http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...88579356&sid=1 -- that way you'll be using an official world of warcraft source.

In fact, if you want further clarification on whether or not your use of external websites during conversations, why not post on the Customer Service forums on the official WoW forums? The GMs there are pretty good at reponding to questions -- and I find their responses are a bit more thorough (and you'll also have a lasting record that isn't just screenshots) compared to in-game ticketed GMs.
