We don't just bind /follow to WASD for this exact reason. Use a separate follow key so you can leave your slaves where you want them and still move your main without screwing up positioning. There is no simple way to correct facing, though I do go over it briefly in the Second Newbie's Guide.

Follow doesn't break on its own in the game or in Jamba, you need your slaves to move independently - make everyone strafe or step forward/backward to break the follow command. If you are using Jamaba's follow strobing, you first need to use the command to disable follow strobing, then break follow. You also need to be aware of anything else that can trigger autofollow or follow strobing {delays, lag, dropping in and out of combat} or follow will just start up again.
