Default A question about playing 2 accounts on same PC at the same time.

Well the question is simple enough but i'm not sure about the answer.

Now before you start to spam things like "use the search button" I will save you the time and let you know that I already have.

I have come across quite a few different things but not exactly what I have.

So I started an account for the wife about a month ago and she recently had a change in her work schedule and can no longer play wow. I figure I better use the already paid for playtime and run our low level toons together with out RAF bonus.

All I need to do is just put her hunter on follow and just pew pew the main target I am tanking on my druid. FROM A SAFE DISTANCE!
Any kind of software that I have come across seems to have a dead link or has a hefty price.

Do I really need to copy my wow directory and put it in another location on my HD and rename it? For what I am doing I only need a very simple approach. Only a few actual offensive actions will be needed from the Hunter. I do not really care nor need some crazy looking UI on either sides, if anything it would be on the druid tank.

So any links to working software or some type of easy macro setup would be best.

    Thanks for reading.

    -Aaron

p.s. If I'm 100% in the wrong and I need to do some crazy setup please just let me know with some helpful links.

I don't know if the battle.net launcher prevents you from doing it now, but you certainly used to be able to just fire up 2 copies of the wow.exe (probably in window mode, so you can see what you're doing).

If you don't want any software help and only very basic stuff, that might work, unless it has been changed.

Otherwise you could look into the free software HotKeyNet, but it will require some work on your part (scripting) to set it up and make it all happen. There is lots of help for HKN on this site alone, so if you go that route, just look/search around here.

Yes it will let you, I am currently running both accounts but really can't do anything with the second one except put it on follow and manually switch over to start auto fire Kind of a pain in the ass.

Any links for downloading/setting up thus said Hotkeynet? current versions please.

I don't use it myself, I use isBoxer as I'm not big on scripting/programming myself and isBoxers front end does the hard work for me

This thread though, will most likely lead you to more of the info you are after. There's quite a bit to absorb, but a great place to get started until you have less generalised questions, then the people who are more well versed in HKN will probably be of more assistance than I can be.

I'm certain there will be basic scripts available for dualboxing too, so you may not need to do too much scripting yourself until you need/want something more advanced.

3rd post down in that thread seems to link to some scripts also, though like I said, I don't use it, so you'll have to experiment.

I multi boxed for a long, long time just alt -tabbing back and forth [mostly EQ, but some WoW as well]. It's doable; it's not optimal, but it's doable.

I don't know if there is any free key-broadcasting software other than HotKeyNet; there is free window management software like WinEQ though (which lets you configure hotkeys for tabbing to specific windows).

If you have multiple computers, a ghetto solution is to run the second character off another keyboard or keypad (highly configurable keypads like the nostromo are nice for this). I mention this because you might have some hardware laying around that can run WoW. [And temporarily running a character off a secondary input device is rather easier to jump into than almost any other solution.]

Meh, I've alt-tabbed, hardware-boxed [both multi-keyboards, multi-keypads, and used vetras], used KeyClone, and ISBoxer, but never actually used HotKeyNet for multiboxing. I probably should, just to round things out =p

Seriously, though, isboxer + the wizard just make things so terribly easy. And it can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it.

Look at autohotkey on this site. Its free but takes a little more effort to set up. Its not imho as powerful as isboxer but it accomplishes what you need to do. You can attack on your druid whilst stopping your hunter from moving in and can attack on both. Download jamba to make looting questing following everything in wow easier.

Theres alot more your missing from just putting on follow. I understand i started with autohotkey years ago but done forgot how to set it up and when i tried it again i was like ummm yea nope going back to isboxer. Yea so jamba a MUST autohotkey work with it and you will be able to do just about everything you will need to do to make it look like two toons are playing.
They say spiders have 8 legs well i guess im a rare and unimaginable specimen. Ive got 9 legs and my web comes from that 9th leg. HaHa.

I'd also like to point out, any kind of boxing is going to draw attention to yourself.
Some people are going to report you, because they don't understand or don't like what you're doing.

If both of the accounts are not in the same name, that's going to cause an issue.
That is the first thing a GM is going to look at.
If both accounts are already in your name, you're fine.
But if one is in your name and the other is in your wife's name, there is unfortunately a good chance you'll be banned at some point for using both at once.

If you're serious about boxing, take a look at IS Boxer.
There's a trial period, so you can see if you like it or not.
With a ton of support material, especially the videos by MiRai and the IRC on their site.

It works for the majority of games out there.
And compared to the subscription fee of almost any game you'd want to box, the cost is very minimal.

You can duplicate a lot of the features with something like AutoHotKey or HotKeyNet.
But nothing is as powerful (flexible in what it lets you do) as IS Boxer.
And IS Boxer has wizards that run to get you up and going, rather than needing to learn how to script AHK or HKN.
    EverQuest I: Bard / Enchanter / Druid / Wizard / 2x Magician.
    Diablo III: 4x Crusader & 4x Wizard.
