Default Assist Party 1 the new hotness?

Hold on cause this is going to be quick and dirty and as of yet untested by me.

First off I am a big BOOBS fan... wait that sounds bad.. I like small boobs too.. wait... let me start over.

I like Keyclone and it's PiP functionality especially now with BOOBS.

What I have been thinking is I would like to be able to drive from ANY of my toons and be able to fight them as a team that way as well. Up until now I have been using /assist <toon name> in all of my macros to free up focus for CC spells. I thought about replacing the <toon name> with party1 but how would this help when trying to fight from a toon that was not Party1?

    The answer? /promote <toon name>

Each WoW account can be called to the focus window of Keyclone by a keybinding (for this example those keybindings will be 1-5 and the focus window we will call the Main Window). Those keybindings can also be used within each WoW to call a macro. Why not set those macros to be /promote <toon name> (for this example we will be naming our toons A-E)

Keybinding In Keyclone: In WoW each toon runs macro:
    Hit Key 1 = Bring A to Main /promote A
    Hit Key 2 = Bring B to Main /promote B
    Hit Key 3 = Bring C to Main /promote C
    Hit Key 4 = Bring D to Main /promote D
    Hit Key 5 = Bring E to Main /promote E

All of the other macros are /assist party1 or [target=party1target]

This would leave Focus free to be used for other things such as CCing.

What do you think? Obvious? Genius? Obviously Genius? Geniusly Obvious?

    I've been using this:
Using action bar pages to free focus.

I think that the problem with the party1target approach is that party1 is your current leader for everyone *except* your current leader. For them it will be the first player in the group other than themselves. So if your normal leader dies and you switch to a new leader, all of their /target party1target macros will do something other than what you want.

I use [target=focustarget] for my macro'd spells on my alts, without using /assist. That way I can actually click on a target in an alt window if i need it to be CC'd while still DPS'ing or healing the focus' (mostly main or alt if main is dead) target.

No offense but...have you actually read the boards? It is not a new idea. Your problem is still BGs where your "group" is not necessarily in the same group which is why a lot of people prefer to macro all their spells with /cast [target=focustarget] and then switching your "leader" becomes a simple matter of switching your focus.

Yes, you won't be able to use focus for CC but...because you never actually "target" anything as all your abilities work on your focustarget, you can use /assist to assign CC targets. So you sheep your normal target and DPS your focustarget. Does it make sense?

For a "no offense" post that was about the most offense post I've read today. Thanks.

Just be glad my name is not Wilbur. All offensive posts start with "No offense but..."

I also went through all the trouble of typing in "party1target" into the search box. I get 5 pages of results. I think your "Assist Party 1 the new hotness?" claim is optimistic...to put it mildly.

There's still no perfect setup, so keep playing with those macros.

Using party leader may be the best way if you 5-box instances and don't do BGs. Using "/cast [target=focustarget]" is pretty basic -it will make your dps alts switch targets before it's dead, or make your tanking very hard.

I'm pretty happy with my setup, even more so when I see that someone read my post.

I switch PiP and Focus for the same keypress but use only one macro on each clone, I am trying to incorporate changing party leader at the same time

I use one macro because I found that having 5 takes up valuable slots in my macro collection. it goes like
    Code:
    /focus [target=Ashanav,nomodifier][target=Ashanaw,mod:shift][target=Ashanax,mod:ctrl][target=Ashanay,mod:alt][target=Ashanaz,mod:alt, mod:ctrl]
    /script PromoteToLeader(focus);
I then have the following conditions (taken from Vyndree) in each macro
    Code:
    /cast [target=focustarget, harm][target=party1target, harm] Lightning Bolt
This allows me to use Focus for CC (if I had any, running shammies) and target off the Party1 or when in battle ground (or normally) I can use focus

Read and stole code from liberally! :P I'm not getting the full benefit out of it yet because my level 20 shamans don't have anything yet that would really benefit from setting their focus. I'll probably try a mage or lock team at some point too. It would really kick ass for that.

LOL Thing is Fur, most of people (including me at one time) just think yeah yeah until entering a BG to discover they are not the leader, have their chars in different groups and realise that they have no control over them as they go running off following the party leader. [deep breath]

within 20 minutes of this happening to me all my macros had been changed to focus!
NOTE: you get ganked a lot trying to rewrite macros x 3 in the middle of a BG
