Default Anybody know of a bigger than 30" monitor?

    Hey Guys,

I used to 5 box on a 30" monitor which recently broke (ugg HP LP3065 FTL). I'm out shopping for replacement potentials and I'd really like to get something bigger than a 30" monitor. The problem is that I can't seem to find one!

    • Does anybody know of a bigger than 30" monitor I could buy?
    • What about LCD TVs that are much bigger? Do those handle computer inputs very well?
    • Has anybody ever taken 2 monitors apart and then joined them together to make a nearly seamless transition to 1 monitor? For example, take off the black part off the top of two monitors, flip one of them upside down, and then stick them together at the LCD seam, thus removing about 2 inches of black plastic? Would this work?

I'm looking for any ideas to get me a monitor that is bigger than a 30". Assume I have a very large budget.

    Cheers

    Default Look into Mass Multiples

There's a company called Mass Multiples that can help with dual/triple/quad monitor setup. I haven't looked into them in awhile, so I can't tell you if the pricing is good or not. It's not the single monitor solution you are looking for, but if you have to use more than one, their stands are pretty nice.

    Good luck!

You probably wont get as high a resolution if you buy a "TV" but most LCD moniters, have VGA or DVI inputs. Just look at the inputs when you go shopin.

as for taking the moniters out of there casing, sure you can do it, why wouldnt you be able to? Void warrenties but as long as your ok with that , that might solve your problem!

    30" is 2560 x 1600.

A TV can beat 30" but will pale in resolution. If you like bigger pixels, go for it.

You said you had a very large budget.

IBM T221. A 22.2" inch wide (16:10) LCD monitor with 9.2 million pixels arranged in stunning 3840x2400 (QUXGA-W) resolution, contrast ratio of 400:1, brightness of 235 cd/m2, and viewing angle beyond 85 deg in all directions.

It's over twice the resolution. In a 22.2" vs 30" form factor.

Is probably the "best" ultra high rez out there right now.

    It is 7 grand.

And good luck getting a regular d3d video card to run it.

No, the 30" monitors have very little "extra" bezel though and most recent smaller LCDs are the same.

www.seamlessdisplay.com does something like this though.

Some of the newer ATI cards will support up to 3840x2400. I'm not sure what the frame rates would be, but for wow I imagine they would reasonable. Hmm...someone go buy the monitor and test!

    How exactly?

    Dual Link DVI?

The above IBM, if I recall correctly is 15 Pin Mini D Sub x 4.

    Not DL-DVI.

    Hey All,

Thanks for the responses. That alienware system looks very bad ass. I've emailed my corporate contact @ Alienware and I'm going to see if I can get a model of it before it hits production.

Until then, I'm heading over to Best Buy right and am going to purchase 4 of the 27.5" HannG monitors there. I read that they disassemble nicely with a small overlapping border. I'll see if I can't put 4 of those together into 1 huge baby.

PS - What is a good mount to support 2 and 4 up to 30" monitors?

    Cheers!

Okay so is it the general consensus that using a high end LCD TV to play WoW multibox on simply isn't good enough?

I don't think there are any video cards out there that support > 2560x1600. I know that is the upper limit for the 8800 GTX (what I have).
