Default EQ2 Team Setup and Potential

    I haven't boxed since 2001 when I used to dual box a SK & Shaman in EQ1.

I'm starting to 3 box in EQ2 with 3 chars and 3 mercs. I'm using the setup below because I have these characters mostly leveled already, but would like some feedback on a better melee setup. I intended to go full melee hoping for better survivability since I'm a new boxer. Any advice on what Merc types to use for the remaining 3 spots?

    SK (Tank)
    Berserker (DPS)
    Dirge (Buffs and DPS)
    Merc Healer
    Merc Monk
    Merc ???

If you have a great melee setup, or caster setup that has good survivability, I would love to hear it.

As far as potential, how far can I take a 3box team? Will I be able to do tier2 heroic content, or do they require too much coordination on bosses to be effective?

    Thanks!

Side note: does anyone have raid parses of DPS per class. I can't find decent information for ToV anywhere. Looking for FoTM info

Full ranged is easier to multibox. Full melee is a challenge to multibox in any game. You can do it, but it's more difficult due to AOEs. It's also nicer to have a mixed group so you get the most use of the gear that drops.

I don't use mercs, but I like have two healers in my group. The healers in EQ2 do reasonable damage, so it's not detrimental.

My current group is SK, Troub, Wiz, Illy and Warden. A friend plays an Inq with me. We are now just starting Luclin and are L90. Luclin has been the most challenging so far. They really upped the difficulty and "gimicks" with bosses. I think a DPS boost will help though as my gear is pretty bad, and the Luclin gear is a huge jump. I think you can get pretty far with 3 mercs, probably even moreso than six boxing.

If you want parses check EQFLAMES.

The hardest thing about melee boxing in EQ2 is auto attacks make up most"?" or a lot of your DPS.. so spamming macros will result in bad dps. You can still do it.. but you have to time your button mashes to allow for auto attacks. this includes ranged physical damage as well ( ranger )

    So yea, easiest=ranged "caster" dps.

With that being said, having the right melee group makeup can be pretty good if you learn to time in your auto attacks.. time your AE damage reduction cooldowns etc.. Also.. last I played.. Inqs can do some crazy melee dps as well.. I raided with one that was top dps on some fights. And he healed well too.

I have always played melee characters, just can't get excited about magic I guess.

I boxed a Bruiser, Swashbuckler and Warden and then added a Dirge as I had a free 85 character.
3 Boxing with Mercs was very viable and it was nice and less complicated than 4. My chars are only 91 at the moment so haven't reached end game content. The instance bosses are starting to get trickier though and much harder to box as they aren't straight tank'n'spank. You need to do various things with chars at the same time which makes it more difficult. Mercs actaully help here as they just keep healing or bashing away.

I have always used the Chains of Eternity collectors edition Templar merc as my main healing merc to backup the Warden. Krivox is amazing and the Warden mostly just DPS now with some group heals or cures when needed.

Everquest 2 - 4 box - Bruiser, Swashbuckler, Dirge and Warden - on sabbatical.
Diablo 3 - 3 box - Barbarian, Monk and Crusader - got bored.
Wildstar - 2 box - Stalker+Medic and Engineer+Spellslinger - punched out after the first month.

Pardon my ignorance, but which area in EQ2 is "Luclin"? I played EQ1 for years, and thought I knew which zones were there (in Luclin), and none of the EQ2 zones have similar names. Did you mean Velious?

I boxed EQ2 for a while. Mostly duel boxed but at one point I did 6.

    Tank > SK
    Healer > Defiler
    Healer > Warden
    DPS 1 > Lock
    DPS 2 > Lock
    DPS 3 > Lock.

Very powerful in PVE. I didn't want to manage multiple different classes at once due to my own limitations.

I setup Group Wards and Single Targets HOT/Ward. Two button healing. Done.
Wards to prevent damage, hots to replenish what HP was lost and to catch up while new set of wards are being cast.
Single target heals never needed to be used, healing management straight forward and easy.

SK, picked because It's always been my main and its what I like. I'm sure you could replace SK with anything.

DPS - Debuff has more value since multiple toons could take advantage, not sure if they stack (been years). Because the SK does so well on AOE tanking, the AOE damage from the locks weren't much of an issue.

Run in to room, Grab agro, Get wards up, then cast hots and continue that rotation. Mean while Applying DPS via the locks using Cast sequence macros (nice macro drag and drop interface included in the game for making these).

That's pretty much it, Worked great.

I'm sure that party makeup can be approved upon, but factoring how many classes you can handle at once, that was pretty much my limit. The healing configuration worked out great, most easy to manage compared to the rest of the roles you have to perform In that group.

if you like melee, I suggest BeastLords and use the weapon smith made Bo Staffs , at least in the mid ranges (40 & 50) , the level 40 Bo staffs have an aoe knock down that really can't be resisted. so the BL does a ranged attack and everything around the target falls down. at least at level 50 they are fantastic fun. I'm using an Shadow Knight, 2x Beastlord, Wizzard, Warder, Fury ... I pretty much keep them in all crafted+experimented gear but the BL's can steal aggro so you have to watch them.

    SK / Warden ( or Fury) / Wizard / Illy / Troub / Conjy.

I was able to do a lot with this build, was stress free and fun.

Like others have said - melee is a chore. I tried Beastlords and while fun the melee just isn't as efficient, ranged is king for multiboxing this type of game. The only players I saw pull off melee were using third party tools to automate, technically it felt like they were botting and I wasn't going down that path.
