    Default Performance issues :(

    So my mobo fried while I was doing some video encoding for work. Joy.

    Anyhow.

    The new processor is running at 40% with 4x clients and my gfx card is running at about 45% with 4x clients. The main client is on ultra view distance/enviro and spell detail.

    I'm only getting 20fps outside of shrine, with 40% and 45% usage?

    Any thoughts on this?

    Running;

    Windows 7
    Radeon 7850 (GPU clock at 1049, memory clock at 1450)
    AMD fx8320 @ 4.6ghz
    16gb ram
    DX11

    wow is CPU bound. look at your CPU usage, not your GPU.

    A machine with quadruple that power would get a crappy frame rate with those settings in the area you standing (Vale of Eternal Blossoms). Cant be done... don't run ultra on any of the clients, especially not shadows or max view distance. The amount of CPU calculations becomes exponentially higher just for those two settings alone.

    Processor is only running at 40-60%tops though? Is that normal then?

    Generally, if you can turn down your video settings and your FPS goes up, then the likely answer would be that your video settings are set too high for your hardware to handle. I can't tell you whether it's your CPU or your GPU, but AMD CPUs have always seemed to be sub-par for Blizzard games in the last few years.

    EDIT: I feel I should clarify because it might sound like I'm calling your CPU crap. It's just that since the AMD CPUs don't perform as well as Intel in Blizzard games, when you ramp the settings up, you can probably expect to have less performance than you'd think.

    I don't own an AMD CPU, so I have no actual first-hand experience with using them.

    Thanks guys. I guess the issue that I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around is the fact that its acting like its bottlenecking, but nothing is pegged, not even temps. I'll have to fiddle some more.

    I assume you're looking at CPU utilization, but that isn't always the case. Sometimes the CPU will be spending a lot of time waiting on IO. For instance, if the CPU is waiting on information over the network it won't matter how much CPU power you have on tap. Also, it could be a small subsystem of your CPU that's overloaded while the "CPU Utilization" is being reported for the entire processor, which, on the average could be low...
