I found intelligently stat items are worth selling at every level. I know people cry about don't use the AH, but it obviously is used in face of this 'wisdom'. Levelling any character that farms and doesn't craft, you have more than enough to gear up from the AH at every level advancement. Of course, I didn't waste gold on unreasonably priced items. Your first toon should be one that you can make the most money with, on your acct, then your alts can begin crafting, if crafting even entices you, at all. It's very easy, but it's pretty tedious. Any item I would buy off the ah, that I find as a drop, I list on the AH to sell (assuming I don't use it). The game is filled with enough drops that are 'worthless' but to disenchant. Of course, you have the time to list the ah vs just vendoring, but vendoring old world stuff doesn't net you what the Ah can from the same items. Totally worthwhile to DE junk, and AH worthwhile items at every level.

I actually put mining on an alt too so that I could use treasure finding on my dwarf pally main. It actually helps with some quests.
I use something similar for skinning with an alt, but I didn't know you could do that with mining?

Very true - I mail all greens to a bank char to sort out once a week before either listing on AH / sending on to my d/e:

The following are my rules of thumb for pre TBC lootz:

    1h weapons - shard them
2h weapons - vendor (2h are worth a lot more then 1h, so i use 1h to get essences and 2h to get gold)

Cloth - AH any EAGLE gear (Int & Stam) - shard the rest

Leather - AH any MONKEY (Agi /Stam), AGILITY or TIGER (Agi & Strength) - shard the rest

Mail pre lv 40 - AH any BEAR ( Stam / Strength) or Tiger (Agi / Strength) shard the rest

Mail 40-60 - AH any AGILITY or MONKEY shard the rest

Plate - AH BEAR , TIGER, EAGLE - shard the rest.

Rings & Necks - ALWAYS AH jewelery except for low level resistance items.

Hats & Shoulders - Always AH these as they can be tricky spots to fill at low levels.

Obviously you may get the occassional item that you want to AH that falls outside these guidelines or shard more gear depending on yr needs and server economy

The time it takes to sift through what is junk and what is not and then AHing it is just not worth it to me for the amount the items sell for compared to the DE value. Enchantrix with Auctioneer will give you a vendor price, DE price and AH breakdown. If an item doesn't sell for at least 20g+ on the AH I just don't bother. I just DE and sell the dusts/shards.

it works with skinning because because a dead mob is targetable, a mining node is not (you can mouse over it though

I have to disagree somewhat here...Cloth OWL gear sells nicely to spirit-hungry shadowpriests, especially pre-bc where there's little spelldmg to worry about

Leather, I will personally tell you I was fucking pissed at the fact that every goddamn leather item on the AH was rogue/feral oriented...sure they're common specs but for fuck's sake don't forget about us boomkins and restos + ele shamen pre-40 and even some post-40. I've yelled at /trade channel "QUIT FUCKING SELLING EAGLE LEATHER, BOOMKINS NEED GEAR TOO DAMNIT" :p Don't make the same mistake! Think of your boomkin and ele shamen brethren! :p

As for the above 1h/2h bit, sometimes 1hs sell very nicely...always check at a vendor and sell if it's high enough ;p Time = money, time spent = money saved, rush = flushing gold.

I cant disagree with any of the points you make but the guidelines i listed were for maximum saleability and only having to list an item once - there are more mages & locks than spriests, and more rogues + ferals + hunters and enhance shammies in total than there are low level balance / ele shams. I guess each server will differ depending on its age and population though so take that into account also.
