I've used lazy macros as a template for all my PVE DPS rotations and they've worked well, they pull far higher DPS than me controlling the spells manually, the difference is massive. I don't know the exact numbers but let's say using my keybinds I pull 100-120k dps sustained, with a 1 button lazy macro I pull 180-200k and can focus on tanking and healing as they DPS is pretty much automated. You can do the same for tanks as well - one for single target aggro, one for aoe aggro.
For PVP I still use a complete keymap for every toon.. 25-35 keybindings for the main class (DKs in my case). Players don't behave like bosses and fights aren't long enough to where I care about sustained DPS. I want control over when I pop DPS cooldowns and use Obliterate/Frost Strike on single targets I need to deal with immediately, and use aoe when there are large groups. Even having rarely used spells in PVP (like Soul Reaper) on a separate keybind is effective - that 1.2M hp blood DK, prot warrior, whatever that sits at 25-30% hp forever? Soul Reaper - boom. Dark Sim on casters, outbreak on ranged you don't have time to run after, etc.
Just a tip, you'll need to do some tweaking based on your exact spec/talents, and you'll need an addon (or put them in ISBoxer) - a good dps/tanking lazy macro won't fit in a default WoW macro... not even close.
