Default What Ilvl gear is realistic for the non raiding boxer?

Would like to get my expectations in line. I know I'm not going to raid. After casually farming rep, running this and that dungeon/quest over and over, about what Ilvl gear can I reasonably expect as a 5-boxer? Looks like somewhere between 460-520? This would be PvE only.

Well you can get all 496 gear just from timeless isle. (upgrades to 504). And heroic scenarios, some of which should be boxable at that ilevel can drop a 516 item every day. Additionally there are 2 or 3 burdens of eternity to make a 535 item from the 496 tokens.

I'd say that a 515 ilevel would be a good first goal and then you could safely take them into raids if they all have a dps spec and the names aren't so similar people get annoyed and notice you are boxing.

edit: it is certainly POSSIBLE to get more than 2 or 3 burdens on your team if you are willing to do a lot more farming than I am

My friend got 5 burdens in 2 days on his single character farming because of the chest event you can do.

How is multiboxing in LFR etc? I don't expect to do any really, just curious if it is a quick boot or does okay.

I wouldn't recommend 5 boxing if you have crap gear but once you know the dungeons from single boxing add another and go from there. There is also no law saying that you have to keep all of the toons you queue with in the dungeon, I often queue with my healer and then drop her after the first boss kill.

If you wanna do a tremendous amount of farming on timeless isle, + some pvp gear, about 530 is feasible. 535 would be about the max assuming you were able to upgrade every single slot with a burden of eternity.

If you run LFR and use burden gear, expect mid 530s. Boxing can be tricky to pull off in LFR on some of the bosses and what type of toons you take and how man, and your group may kick you just for multiboxing even if you're top dps, etc. However I've been able to complete all of wing 1 with 9x frost DK, and all of wing 2 with 6x frost DK. I threw in some flex runs here and there for certain items and my toons are all in the 535-545 range. The toons over 540 ran some flex and got lucky.

With upgrades, you can get craftable 530 helm and boots, and craftable 561 belt and legs.

I'd think with timeless isle, craftable gear and celestials loot you could probably hit 530 pretty easily.

Tricky part is getting near the 550 area - flex, lucky drops off celestials, legendary cloak, and gear off ordos would push you there.

After spending about two months on the Timeless Isle, my five Monks are closing in on ilvl 500. The Isle was great for gearing up toons when you could trade gear on rare kills, but Blizzard nerfed that in the last patch. You can still trade gear that you collect while farming mobs, which helps spread the wealth around. All I need now is two pairs of legs and a ring.

As for LFR, I highly recommend giving it a try. I dipped a tentative toe into the first part of Mogu'shan last weekend. I ran three dps toons. I didn't get kicked, and they did respectable DPS (#5, 6, and 7 according to Recount) without food or flasks.

Today I plunged into the first stage of Mogu'shan with all five toons (4x Dps, 1x Healer). Nobody died, and their DPS was still in the Top 10.
I was a little wary of taking my Mistweaver, since she's fistweaving. It didn't help that I forgot to drop her Serpent Statue in all the excitement. Her healing was lacklustre to say the least, but she almost did more DPS than a hunter and a rogue. I'll probably switch her to DPS once I get the gear to do it.

The nice thing about LFR is that it's pretty forgiving. The strategy for the first three bosses in Mogu'shan is basically the same: DPS boss, don't stand in bad stuff. The Stone Guard is a nice fight to practise keeping your toons out of the Amethyst Pools and switching targets amidst the chaos (it can be hard to pick out your toons because everybody is packed into such a small area). I really like the fight against Feng the Accursed because you can practice moving as a group (to avoid epicentre during Phase 1) and moving toons individually (to drop Wildfire Spark away from the Raid during Phase 2), all of which help you become a better boxer. That said, you could probably ignore the mechanics completely, as many seem to do, and survive just fine. The fight against Gara'jal is the easiest. For the moment, I'm content to leave the spirit world nonsense to the others and simply focus on the boss.

I'm looking forward to the challenge of part 2 of Mogu'shan. I'lll probably run it with one or two toons to get a feel for it before I try it with all five. The strategy guides I've read suggest there are several times when toons need to spread out, which I'm not really comfortable doing right now.
