You can buy a projector and get a 200" screen but if it's still in 1080p you don't get any extra room on the screen.
Exactly this. There is no difference in 'screen real estate' if your TV or monitor are the same resolution, it's just going to be bigger and more stretched out.
2560x1440 seems to be the sweet spot these days and has the same aspect ratio as 1080.
