Do items like focusing lens, vanity pets and Archmage Vargothwork's staff work in arena?

where IWT has far greater range than /follow and is helpful in gathering up feared toons

Also, is the ethereal soul-trader BOA? Seems every pet I loot is available to all my toons on my other accounts - not sure about loot card based ones.
