The thing I love the most is when people name drop their "HUGE" plasma and how a 50" or a 70" is gigantic. Then they run regular DVDs on it (which run at 720 x 480 (assuming NTSC). That is a third of a megapixel! A SINGLE 30" can display over EIGHT DVDs at the same time at native resolution!!! Why the heck would you want to blow that up to 50"?? Even with hardware filtering and smoothing - there is not enough physical information available to render a high resolution movie.
MAYBE if you are running HDTV but even then... the 30" DL DVIs blow that out of the water. Assume you have progressive scan HDTV (many are still interlaced, meaning you lose half of the vertical signal) - but assume you get the highest quality HDTV TV - 1080p - this is still "only" 1920x1080, so 2,073,600 pixels (2 megapixels). The 30" DL DVIs run at 2560 x 1600, or
4,096,000 (4 megapixels). And they are 30" - not 50"+.
So even if you had a 70" plasma or what have you.... what is the point when you only need something like a 21" screen to show that in native resolution? Anything else is just upscaled.
Seriously.
I own the Ergotron DS models. Solid and modular but a bit pricey. Try eBay.PS - What is a good mount to support 2 and 4 up to 30" monitors?
