Thread: Boosting Myself

    Default Boosting Myself

    Hi Guys,

Ok, here is my question. I have a level 70 T4 hunter and im finding myself with some time on my hands, so I am thinking of opening another account and creating a healing class (pala more than likely)

    My question is this ...

Would I level fast if I constantly boosted myself through instances? ie, I have my paladin on follow with my hunter and I just run through with my hunter killing everything and letting my pala loot.

Obviously this would be great for gear for my paladin, but would the XP be good and fast enough to level quickly? Or am I better off soloing and doing quests?

    Thanks,

    Facecake

I dont think it will be good enough xp. The best thing you can do is to boost your alt in instances for quests and gear as well as for boosting outdoor elite quests.

Your XP is going to suffer severely because of the high level of the hunter. I tend to use high level characters to help a lowbie finish quests as quickly as possible since you do get full XP for quests of course. If you don't place your characters in a party and just put the high character on follow, you can play your lowbie normally and just use the power of the high character when you run into trouble. If the high character is a healer (and not partied with the lowbie) you can heal without losing XP for kills.

Basically you can power your way through instances for loot and through quests for quest XP. However as your lowbie gets closer in level to the high character you can start letting the lowbie "tag" mobs (get in the first hit) and let the high character finish it off. As long as the mob is not gray to the high character, the lowbie will get full XP for the kill.

With your high character at 70 you could start this as soon as you get into Outland at 58 but will have to take your characters into an area with 63 level mobs as I believe 62 and below will be gray to your 70.

You could actually start the "tagging" routine sooner than that if you have some alts at lower levels than 70. For instance if you had a 30 level character, you could help your lowbie get through his 20's.

I did this with a couple of Warlocks at level 30 helping a priest on my third account. At level 18 I took them to Tarren Mill and started killing the spiders, bears and whatnot in that area. The 18 would tag them and the 30's would take them down. It was sorta tough starting at 18 as I would often have to throw more than one spell by the priest to get a successful tag, but the warlocks would finish mobs off before they became a danger to my priest. Unfortunately I found out that using my pet demons would reduce the amount of XP for the kill, even though damage directly from the Warlocks would not.

I had some guild members tell me that up to level 30 dragging a low level alt around killing stuff like crazy in an instance is pretty fast at leveling. But they told me at 30 the exp you get drops so much it isn't worth it anymore.

I have not tested this out for myself, but plain on it later to help gear my 2nd box.

Another reason why I don't do this is to level is because I want both toons to level at the same time. That makes it so I can buy all the same spells / pet books / talents and do the same quest all at the same time.

I also find that I'm leveling a little slower than I did soloing, but its easier. Because I do collection quest, I end up killing more mobs and gain more exp while doing a single quest. I'm usually at a higher level starting most quest than I was when I soloed.

(I have 2 warlocks i'm leveling but I have a lvl 70 hunter that on a same account so I can only power level 1 warlock)

I would run my toons from RFC through SM with my Hunter and Druid (alternating for variety). If you can kill fast enough, the exp is better than grinding. It goes even faster if you ignore loot.

I'd set the pet to agro, and then poison about 10 mobs, let them run to me, and hit a fire (or snake) trap. Repeat. With my Druid, I'd go bear form and just spam Swipe. I'd crit so often, my rage bar would be full most of the time and it would keep me healed (feral spec). I timed SM cath runs and found the Druid to be *slightly* faster than the Hunter.

You want the mobs in the instance to be red con. And you'll have to place your toon in a safe place, as the red con agro range is HUGE and you can't use the /follow command without the alt dying.

After SM-Cath, your 70 can't kill fast enough to make it worth it. But you can still run the instances to get good gear. I would run my melee toons especially, as they kill faster with blue weapons.

for the loot situation you could always level with someone else in your guild or charge someone for being there and have them loot everything that isnt bop.

i did this when i was leveling my last toon would charge 10-15 g per run and i had a regular who towards the end would just help out my toon when i didnt feel like 2 boxing.

on runs with a 70 all you should care about is Boe blues and bop upgrades. Cloth and stuff like that if needed for professions/first aid everything else just leave.

Getting SM Lib runs for my priest duo from a level 70 the exp earned was much better than they get in a regular party of two from regular samelevel mobs, an entire level could be done in an hour or two I'm sure.

Still nowhere near the powerplayability in Dark Age of Camelot, but better than what I remember it being. A priest duo doesn't quite seem the best possible booster or instance-farmer class because of the lack of AE and all that, or what do you more experienced people think?

i know a pally that can clear SM in under 10 mins when he was helping a friend of mine they hit the max instance limit a couple times that day .

i know of a druid/lock combo that would pull the whole cath chamber it was a terrible pull at first with death to everyone but over time they perfected it .

For what it is worth, I tested using my mages to AoE SM to grind my warlocks in a raid. Each mob gives about 14 exp (-14 raid penalty). But.... I can AoE clear dozens in seconds.

So... I get about 2% exp per clear of Cath and another 1.5% for Armory on my locks. Takes a few minutes, rinse and repeat.

Not too bad actually - repetitive but faster than questing or soloing!

May not be variable unless you have a spare level 60 mage / priest team and 10 computers though

Edit: This method *works* but winds up being about 5000 kills per level. Which is slower than powering through on my own.

I ran my 4 level 27 mages through SM library last night using my level 70 mage and it wasn't bad xp at all. With a few bubbles of double xp I made about 7 bubbles off of those 2 runs. The only thing I have to decide is whether to catch the priest up solo or just run the mages up together and pvp with 5 mages.
I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A bird will fall frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself.
