Default Big PvP changes in 5.3

    • A blog with additional information and explanation for the reasoning behind PvP changes will be available very soon.
    • All characters now have a base Resilience of 65%.
    • Resilience has been removed from most PvP gear.
    • Season 13 Tyrannical gear had their item levels increased to ilevel 496, up from ilevel 493.
    • Season 13 Tyrannical Elite gear had their item levels decreased to ilevel 496, down from ilevel 512.
    • Battlegrounds, Rated Battlegrounds, and Arenas now have an ilevel cap. All gear will be scaled down to ilevel 496.

IMO, this is all great for us. The playing field will be much more level, and some toons will be much easier to kill (e.g. PvE geared blood tanks in BGs).

The resilience keeps getting higher and higher, which negates our burst, but most players had 65% in full gear anyway.

Geared toons have 60-67% resilience anyway, depending on how much they gemmed. My main has 61% with zero resil gems or enchants. Top arena players of certain classes went up to 67% or so.

Just speculation and theorycrafting so far but, the points:

    - With 65% base resil, DR may kick i right away at 0 resil (was ~11000). You probably won't be able to gem up to 85% resilience or >100% as a twink. You may not be able to gem it at all. I really hope it DR's. I don't want to fight healers (or anything) with 90% resilience.

    - Gear scaling down to 496 means all that 522+ pve gear will lose its extra stats And be missing PVP power entirely. I *hope* this works as planned. I don't want to get annihilated by a ilvl 550 frost mage.

    - PVP power may become the most important stat, when Everyone has 65% base resil and you may not be able to go much higher, and you won't be able to get primary stats any higher than offered at ilvl 496. I was about to re-gem my entire 10 box 100% resil as my damage was getting too overkill and survivability was more important. Now, I'm not so sure it's worth it for a few percent more resilience in 5.3 and 15% less PVP Power times 9.

The only problem is that your ilevel doesn't scale down in world pvp, so when you're on Isle of Storms and there are ilevel 50 Frost Mages running around... Yeah.

So how much harder will a ilvl 550 PVE player hit for compared with a Tyrannical player? Will boxing in world pvp be viable at all anymore?

Currently PvE gear is beating out pvp gear in wpvp by a long shot. SO basically what i see most pvp players doing is running lfr and such getting pve gear for wpvp then working on their tyrannical set for bgs, arena, and rbgs. If your into pve and enjoy/want to branch into wpvp your set. If your only interested in pvp youll be at a slight gear disadvantage but your number will probably make up for it.

I've read a lot about how to gear in 5.3 now. Something like use pvp weapon and 4 set and pvp glove bonus. Then replace everything else with higher ilvl PVE gear.
Is the 522 valor gear comparable with the 522 normal mode drops from raids? I'm thinking that would be good if one is not into raiding.

It's basically the same, but depending on your class/spec you might get more stat budget for the stats you fancy more. Some of the valor trinkets are even better than what drops in raids.
