FTL is an amazing strategy game with a lot of depth- cheap too!

I'm currently getting back into Dungeons & Dragons, 3.5 edition.
So haven't been playing anything.
But I came from Everquest, prior to Warcraft.
And there is a lot of nostalgia for that game, having played it for as long as I've played Warcraft.
I've been looking at Everquest I.
There's basically no PvP, aside from one server where a large number of people hang out in Plane of Knowledge (cannot be fought there) until insta-kill cooldowns are available... then kill someone and return to PoK...
But the plus side is the nostalgia...
Visit all of the PvE content that was done, when EQ was the big MMO.
And the game is free to play, sort of.
Four free races: Barbarian, Erudite, Halfling, Human.
Four free classes: Fighter, Cleric, Wizard, Rogue.
You can purchase additional races, classes, character slots (4 are free), etc.
If you've never paid SOE a subscription, your account is Bronze.
If you've ever had a subscription, or if you pay a one time $5 fee, your account is Silver.
If you have an active subscription, or redeem 'Krono' (a commodity which is purchased with real cash and sold in game) you're gold for a month.
Silver accounts can have 1000 AAs.
If you devote 60% of experience to AAs and 40% to level ups, you pretty much have enough AAs to be average power for your level.
Depending on class, somewhere between 65th and 75th, you'll need more AAs to not be weak for your class.
You can spend a one-time fee, to increase your AA cap by 250 (and do this as many times as you'd like... which is an okay option, if you play sporadically).
You can also go Gold, via subscription or Krono, for no AA cap for a month; any AAs you earn that are over the 1000 Silver cap are retained, when your account goes back to Silver.
I kind of priced it out... close to $100 for 6x Races, 6x Classes, 6x Gear Bundle (which is like BoA stuff).
The game is free for all expansions, up to but not including the two most recent.
That gets you a level 90 cap.
At any point you can purchase the latest expansion, which gets you everything previous and makes your account 'Gold' for a month.
Level cap is 100, with the current expansion.

I just bought a WII U just for Monster Hunter Ultimate so I think I will be playing that for the next year or 2. I may come back to the pc for Elder Scrolls Online when it is released.
Life is like and Ice Cream Cone, you have to enjoy it before it melts;-)
SoE is removing a lot of the Free to Play restrictions, sometime next week: https://www.everquest.com/news/artic...2013&id=524463

EQ was also my first MMO and I have fond memories of MQ2 as well =D
That said, it'd be hard to go back to the old graphics. Assuming they never did get around to that.
