How do YOU spend your RAF level grants?

I finally hit level 80 with my first 5-toon team last night and now I'm pondering what to do with all those granted levels. I had started out with two accounts and did an RAF on three more so my granting situation looks like:
A -> C -> E
B -> D

I did a quick search and couldn't find anyone talking about what they were using the granted levels *for*, as such. Though I did find a nice post by Ualaa about how granted levels can be used to grant more levels. Nice bit of info, that. I'm currently maxed out on accumulated levels to grant since I leveled the team from 1-80, and need to figure out some use for them.

One idea I've had are to level up some alts I've had sitting around not being leveled because I don't enjoy playing them as much (I have a druid, mage and warrior in the 30s/40s on "A" so this would be valuable). I've also thought about leveling up a rogue using this method so I can have a lockpicking toon for all those silly lockboxes I keep finding. I've never really cared for playing the rogue (and likewise find the monk to be not much fun), but I don't have a rogue any higher than level 8 at the moment, so it wouldn't be as beneficial to spend the levels on them. I could pair up the two rogues I have on A and B and level them to 40 first, I suppose, and that would only cost me time (A & B of course can't grant any levels, so there would be no waste from that standpoint). Granted, neither of these will consume all the accumulated grantable levels on all accounts.

Any suggestions, whether related to the ideas I had or for entirely different approaches would be appreciated.

In all seriousness, I would spend your levels and any remaining RAF time you have getting as many toons to 80 as possible. You never know when you might want to try out a new class or boxing comp.

I moved five toons from Cenarius Alliance to Magtheridon Horde.
Then decided I really liked the guild and the people.
So down the road, I decided I would ten box.

Using the five toons already there, as the boosters/base setup.
My RAF is E boosts AB>FG; E boosts CD>HI; and A boosts E>J.
I've done the first portion, and am taking a break.

I leveled seven compositions on ABFG.
Technically one of those was in the mid 60s, on ABCDE and received granted levels to 80th.
There were a few compositions that I figured might be interesting down the road as a x5, but that I wasn't planning on using as a x10.
So those got granted levels.
- Mages, for Portals and Summoned Foods.
- Rogues, in case I decide to do a team, plus for opening locked boxes.

I've never had much luck with "boosting", as the level gap has always meant the toon being boosted doesn't get much experience. Unless there's a method of "boosting" where the booster isn't doing most or all of the damage (e.g. I can see using my level 80 pally to run heals for a new 4 DK team).

I ended up spending RAF level grants on one rogue to get it from 40 to 79 on a druid to get it from ~43 to 80 (the remaining went to a 40+ mage), and the last bunch I'm planning on throwing at a DK that I started a little while ago.

I'm not sure what my next team to level up under RAF is going to be. Maybe DK because they start at 55 anyway. Do I try and level a fleshed out team (i.e. containing a tank, healer and DPS), so that I can do dungeons, or do I do another set of same-class toons like the rogues where even if I walk to the dungeons, being healer-less makes it far safer to do quests to level? The former will probably be a lot more interesting, but also a lot more complicated than anything I've done so far. Setting up a new team is fairly time-consuming as it is.

I had tried, when I was just getting started, to get in touch with the folks on magtheridon but never got any response from anyone. I play alliance now and have always preferred the alliance races and cities, but at some point I may start some horde toons on a different server to get some of those achievements. (eh, why not)

Also, I did manage to confirm a few things that I was uncertain about (or had heard but couldn't remember where)
1) The RAF process accumulates grantable levels UP TO 80 (every other level, that much is clear). The point is that you get 39 levels to grant, going from 1 to 80
2) You can't accumulate more than 39 levels (I think I'd heard 40, but had that been the case, my rogue would have been able to go from 40 to 80, rather than 40 to 79, since I should have otherwise accumulated more levels by leveling the 5 rogues from 1-40)
3) You can definitely grant levels all the way up to the level you're at (I haven't gone beyond 80 yet so I'm not sure if that's a hard limit regardless of grantor level). I was able to grant levels to a druid to get it to 80 (grantor was 80, grantee started at 43 or so)
4) Granting ~40 levels in front of the Stormwind bank causes quite a stir. I think in future I'll find somewhere with considerably less foot traffic to do it.

Are you referring to 'boosting' or 'tagging'? If you're boosting a team through instances, then you should be getting multiple levels per hour regardless of how high of a level your booster is. If you have an efficient route for boosting through instances, then you can have a new character at level 80 in about 12-14 hours /played.

Surely you weren't uncertain that handing out free levels to a low level character in a high traffic area would cause a stir?

I probably don't understand the difference. If there's a significant level difference between the leader and follower(s), the lower level toons aren't going to get much, if any, XP. You can still complete quests for full XP, but that only happens once (for most quests, at least). I tried doing this with an 85 hunter and the 43-ish mage, and it seemed like it was more trouble than it was worth. Of course I was also trying to do RFK which is a complete PITA to get to now.

Had I really given it any thought before-hand, I would have guessed it would cause a stir, yeah. :-)

To receive the RaF benefits the linked characters need to be within 4 levels of each other. Your initial post in this thread states you have 5 accounts, but from your last post it sounds like you're only trying this with 2 accounts. You cannot boost one single character with a high level (and still receive 300% XP) because you're obviously going to exceed the 4 level RaF limitation.

I probably don't understand the difference.

Many would refer to "boosting" as running a team of characters through an instance on which their levels are on par with, while a high level character clears it very quickly for them. "Tagging" is a method of leveling in the outside world where your team tags a mob, and others outside of your party, kill it.

You can also use these... basically put them on the same keybind for both toons, target the desired veteran character with the newly leveled one, and spam away.

On the level granter:
/run GrantLevel("target", 1)

And to accept those granted levels:
/run AcceptLevelGrant()

Yeah, I'd seen that post over on multiboxing.com, and gave it a try when I was doing the level granting. The grantor side worked great, but the AcceptLevelGrant side never worked for some reason. That said, accepting was just a single mouse click, so I'd hit the (broadcast) key to grant the level, then click the mouse to accept it. Went pretty fast. I tried it on two different accounts so I'm reasonably sure that it wasn't a typo that was the problem.

To get the RAF bonuses:
a) Accounts need to be DIRECTLY raf linked to each other;
b) Characters need to be grouped;
c) Characters need to be within +/- 4 levels of each other;
d) Characters need to be within a certain proximity of each other;
e) Mobs killed or Quests turned in, cannot be greyed out to either character;
f) Both characters need to be 79th or lower level.



If you have a chain like this:
A > B > C
A > D > E

And on 'A' you have a level 85 or 90 booster.
Obviously the A > B and A > D chains won't work for RAF, because the lower characters on BCDE are between 1st and 80th.
Still, the B > C and D > E chains both can easily meet the requirements for RAF.
Meaning, A (85th) can boost BCDE (22nd to 35th) in Scarlet Monastery, provided B>C and D>E meet the above requirements for RAF.



If your team of BCDE are all level 22, and you go into Scarlet Monastery...
In the actual instances, with elite bad guys...
You might get 1,000 experience (per toon) for each mob you kill.
And four mobs might be your absolute maximum, which could take 2 minutes to kill, and then 2 minutes to recover health/mana, etc.
If you added a fifth mob, some of your group might die and need to do a corpse run to the instance.

If you have a booster with you... you get 200 experience (per toon) for each mob you kill.
However the booster can gather 20 mobs at once, and kill them all in 15 seconds (plus pull time).
So you might be doing 30 mobs x 200 experience, or 6,000 experience per minute... which is a lot better than 4,000 experience every 4 minutes.
Also the low levels are in no danger of dying.
With RAF, and boosting... you generally run an instance 2-10 times and advance 10 or so levels and then move on to the next instance.



Tagging is where the low levels (in a group) damage each mob initially.
And then a higher level finishes the mob.
The high level takes the percentage of experience (even if they're level capped, and actually get none of it) away from the lower levels, unless they're within 10 or so levels (the maximum level disparity varies by character level, I think between 7 and 11 or something like that).

If you have two or more characters (low level) in the tagging group.
And the higher level only has pets finish the mobs (no character damage)... and totems, like the Shaman AoE pulsing fire damage, are considered pets...
The low levels get full experience.
For a tagger, you want all Stamina gear, preferably on an AoE class with something like Arcane Explosion that can be cast while moving.
Then have a group of Shaman (or other pet classes) outside of the group, to round-robin Stoneclaw and every place their Magma Totems...
Hopefully the Stoneclaw Totems taunt the mobs and stun them when they attack the totem, while the Magma Totems decimate the mobs who are a lot lower than the Shaman group.

That's the best method for tagging...
But boosting is a lot faster and safer for the lowbies.
